The Chase's Shaun Wallace reveals his quiz 'Achilles heel' and when he plans to quit show

The Chase star Shaun Wallace has said he has no plans to leave the hit quiz show hosted by Bradley Walsh, over a decade after he started as one of the first Chasers.

Known to fans of the ITV show as the Dark Destroyer, the barrister has impressed viewers on the ITV quiz show since 2009.

Despite balancing his career in the law with that as a TV quizzer, Shaun has said he intends on remaining on The Chase ‘as long as the public have got an appetite for it’, adding that he still pinches himself that the ITV show is ‘going strong’.

The Chase has celebrated a stellar year, fresh off the back of a BAFTA for the regular show and a National Television Award for its spin-off Beat The Chasers.

Shaun told The Mirror: “It's just fantastic. To be honoured and to receive awards for it is just beyond my wildest dreams.”

Following a rigorous audition process, Shaun was selected as the first The Chase megamind, ahead of co-star Mark Labbett, known to fans as The Beast.

Over the years, Shaun says his methods of preparing for the wide-ranging show's trivia have stayed the same, but noted each of the Chasers has adopted their own approach.

“I keep myself as up to date as I possibly can in terms of catching up with recent events,” he said. “Every Achilles has a heel. I'm not really into soaps or things like that. So if I don't know the answer, I'll just try and make an educated guess.”

Shaun noted that his recording of episodes of The Chase takes a backseat when he is involved in a major trial for his full-time job, but said he relishes the stark difference between his two lives.

“I managed to fix everything around each other, because I'm doing both types of jobs, which I love, so it's not a chore at all,” he said.

“It is a completely different world. The world of court is serious real life events and it should be treated as such and I keep the two separate.”

Shaun last week joined fans of The Chase at Gala Bingo's Hot Air Balloon Tea Rooms (Will Ireland/PinPep)

Shaun last week joined fans of The Chase at Gala Bingo's Hot Air Balloon Tea Rooms, inspired by iconic bingo call, number 3 Cup of Tea, which brought people together through their love of bingo.

Shaun said: “It's a good time for us to actually meet people who support the franchise and us to thank them for supporting Gala and for supporting Chase.”

He added on the show’s fans: “They always asked about Bradley. They say they love The Chase. Sometimes a bit in awe of us, so we're grateful for that.”
