The Chase's Mark Labbett makes comeback after storming off amid 'shot' mental health

The Chase's Mark Labbett returned to the ITV show on Wednesday evening’s episode after storming off the set as his opposition took home a jackpot of £21,000 last week.

The Beast congratulated the contestants for their win before leaving the studio and punching the wall on the way out, but took to Twitter following the episode to address his response and said his mental health was “shot” at the time of taping.

Bradley Walsh hosted another episode of the popular ITV quiz show on Wednesday, where contestants took on The Chaser in the hopes of walking away with their share of a huge cash prize.

As The Beast emerged from the tunnel to take on the team of Melanie, James, Eirlys and Jeff, host Bradley did not directly address the incident but described Mark as a “bad boy”.

Bradley said: “As heroes go, he's less David Crockett, more potato croquette. The face says it all. The bad boy himself. Mark Labbett.”

Following the wall-punching incident, Bradley immediately apologised for Mark's behaviour on the ITV show, telling viewers that isn't how people should deal with defeat.

When the game had finished and Mark had failed to catch the team, he said: “Well played guys, you deserve it – I’m off.”

Looking shocked, Bradley said: “I apologise to all the kids watching. That’s not how you should take defeat. You should take it magnanimously and humbly.”

Mark took to Twitter to issue an apology, writing: “Apologies to those of you disappointed with my behaviour tonight. My mental health was shot before that game, it was storm off or break down in tears. A remorseless diet of quality opponents didn’t help #thechase.”

His fellow chaser colleague, Paul Sinha, known as The Sinnerman on the show sent his support for his friend.

Paul replied: “You should never have to apologise for the crime of “being human”. I’d have been nowhere on those questions.”

The Chase fans similarly took to social media to express their support of Mark after his frank admission and apology.

One viewer applauded his statement saying: “Mental health is the hardest thing for any individual to control. You were a superb teacher and are a great quizzer and TV personality. We all have bad days chin up mate. You will get through it and come out stronger.”

Another said he didn't need to apologise, writing: “You do not need to apologise for being a human and experiencing emotions. For my entire 24 years of life, that’s all I’ve done – and it doesn’t make it any better, it just makes you feel more guilty. Thank you for acknowledging it, but don’t apologise.”

A third commented: “You were kind and courteous to the team and their success then reacted angrily with yourself and that’s fine. It’s when the chaser is rude or short with the team that annoys me but you didn’t do that.”
