The Chase's Mark Labbett joins Baywatch star for new TV show after axing from US version

The Chase’s Mark Labbett has announced his involvement in a new TV show alongside Baywatch star Brooke Burns after The Beast was axed from the US version.

The 56-year-old professional quizzer revealed he was “gutted” earlier this month not to be invited back as a Chaser on the ABC series.

But The Beast has since announced that he is working with Brooke, a former host of the US version of The Chase in the US, on a “different show”.

Mark, who still appears on The Chase in the UK and its spin-off Beat The Chasers for ITV, took to Instagram to announce the news.

He wrote: “The dream team is back but on a different show this time. So thrilled to be back with the superstar that is Brooke Burns,” alongside a snap of the pair back to back against a The Chase backdrop.

Fans of the Chaser were quick to celebrate the news in the comments section, with one writing: “Yay!!! I purposely block my calendar during the day to watch the reruns.”

Another wrote: “Congrats on the show and on your weight loss journey.”

This comes after Mark shared his disappointment when the new US The Chase line-up was confirmed.

When asked by a fan if he was not reappearing due to contact reasons, he said: “No they just didn't renew me. No reason was offered.”

He shared the news after The Chase's US account tweeted: “New season. New Chasers.

“Victoria Groce, Brandon Blackwell, and Buzzy Cohen join Brad Rutter and James Holzhauer on May 3 when #TheChase returns.”

Mark responded to the account, saying: “Gutted to not be invited back but really excited at the new lineup. Am expecting Brandon and Victoria to wow America. They will be fantastic. Bon chance!”

Meanwhile, the next series of Beat the Chasers unfortunately will not feature The Governess Anne Hegerty, who revealed she has tested positive for coronavirus.

“Unfortunately I've contracted Covid-19 so won't be filming this series of Beat The Chasers,” Hegerty told fans.

“The fantastic Issa Schultz will be stepping in for me and I'm looking forward to watching the series when it's on air later this year. I feel fine, but I'm still positive! (in all respects).”

Anne’s replacement Issa - known as The Supernerd - has previously appeared on The Chase Australia.

The Chase airs at 5pm weekdays on ITV.
