The Chase's Anne Hegerty wanted a whip for her costume but ITV bosses said no

Anne Hegerty revealed her unusual wish for her costume on ITV's The Chase - which bosses said no to.

She said she was shut down by show producers after she suggested a different look for The Governess.

The telly brainbox, 63, is known for wearing a smart suit on the ITV series in her guise as The Governess, but would prefer to wear something a bit more out there.

Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester she claimed that she wanted her Chaser costume to be a bit more risque than it is currently.

She said: "I really would like my costume to include high heels, fishnet stockings and a whip, but they don't seem to want to go for that."

Anne said that she hoped she would be wearing "a nice little navy Chanel trouser suit " before being shown what she would actually be expected to wear.

She said: "Clearly there's going to be no room for vanity here."

While the clothes do come from a "expensive Italian fashion house" Anne joked that the outfit looks as if "it's been bought from a charity shop."

Anne has previously admitted she was going to be nicknamed “The Headmistress” on the show until host Bradley Walsh kept calling her “The Governess”, and she asked show bosses to change her moniker.

The Governess has appeared on The Chase since 2010.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and ITV Hub
