The Chase player proves everyone wrong as she plays for whopping £47,000

Fans of ITV's The Chase were shocked and some even issued an apology after a player on tonight's show proved them all wrong.

Host Bradley Walsh welcomed four more hopefuls - Gareth, Mike, Abigail and Karen - to the ITV quiz show. They went head to head with chaser Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan with dreams of walking home richer than when they arrived at the studio.

The show was tense as the men, sports programme manager Gareth and warehouse worker Mike, both played it safe going for middle offers - ignoring the advice from fellow player Karen to go high.

Both gentlemen managed to make it back to the team securing a place in the final. But Bradley was keen to rub in the fact that both contestants could have secured a larger valued prize had they opted for high offers.

Third to play was Abigail who also played it safe. Sadly she went home with nothing, before it was Karen's turn to face the chaser.

The musician, from Lancashire, had previously advised her team mates to go high and fans at home expected her to chicken out and take a low offer when it came to her turn. Instead she surprised everyone as she impressively bagged £8,000 in the cash builder round and went on to accept a high offer of £47,000 from The Vixen.

People on Twitter went wild and applauded her play - some even apologised for doubting her. Anthony said: "Fair play Karen. Sorry I doubted you #TheChase"

Andi said: "Karen doing what she told everyone else to do. Well done. #thechase". Meanwhile, Al said: "Omg! She's only going high to make us all look stupid. #thechase"

Bradley praised the team and called them a 'super team' as they geared up for the final chase. They were to play for a whopping grand total of £60,000 - meaning that if they won it would be a staggering £20,000 in each of their pockets.

Sadly, Jenny appeared to regain her form in the final and most important round. She demolished them with 40 seconds left on the clock and sent them all home with nothing.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and ITV Hub
