The Chase forced to scramble after 'rare twist' sees Jenny Ryan face empty panel

The Chase was forced to scramble to fill the final fifteen minutes of the popular game show on ITV after Chaser Jenny Ryan caught all four contestants, leaving an empty panel.

The team of Michael, Lauren, Natalie and Blake faced off against The Vixen on Tuesday, but as the show went on, each contestant was knocked out ahead of the final.

Natalie was the last contestant to lose out to Chaser Jenny, who was on spectacular form during the latest instalment of the show.

After Natalie had been caught while trying to take home the medium offer of £8,000, host Bradley Walsh explained how the final fifteen minutes of The Chase would be filled.

Bradley told Natalie that she would return after the break with her team - but only one of them would be able to answer questions in a rare lightning round.

He said: "And then there were none, but they do have one more chance to take home £1,000 each when a single player takes on the Chaser once again. Who will they choose?"

Several ITV viewers took to Twitter to express their shock at the turn of events on the show, with one fan savagely suggesting they were the "worst team ever".

After the ITV show returned from an ad break, the full team had reappeared in the studio and chose Natalie as the lone team member to face the Chaser.

She scored a total of eight correct questions in the final and afterwards admitted it had been a tricky feat on her own, as Bradley turned to Jenny to see if she could match the number in two minutes.

Jenny said: "I really feel for you Natalie. It's so tough on your own anyway, but to be representing the team, the nerves do get to you and that energy just dropped there didn't it?"

Jenny managed to catch Natalie and her team with a minute and 12 seconds to spare, blocking them from taking £1,000 each home.

Bradley turned to the team and said: "There you have it. I hope you have enjoyed yourselves. Sadly, I've got to take the £4,000 away and tell you The Chase is over."

He concluded: "That is probably the toughest job in quizdom to play for your other players against the Chaser."

The Chaser also weighed in at the end of the show to tell the team they had been "delightful", adding: "I'm kind of glad I got to see you all again, because once I catch contestants they're gone and out the studio, but I'm sorry you've not got a bigger smile on your face right now. It was a very tough show for all of us. Well done for toughing it out."
