The Chase fans cringe as 'golden rule' is broken just minutes into ITV show

The Chase fans have been left cringing as a "golden rule" was broken just minutes into the ITV show.

Bradley Walsh hosted another episode of the popular quiz show, where four contestants took on one of The Chaser's in the hope of walking away with their share of a huge cash prize.

This week, Alex, Freddie, Dan and Doreen took on The Governess, Anne Hegerty, in a bid to win a huge cash sum - but a 'golden rule' was broken by one contestant in the first few minutes of the show, leaving fans rushing to social media to comment on the error.

Asked what he does when he's not working, Alex told host Bradley: "I'm a quizmaster, so I do about two of those a week."

However, his comment left viewers at home cringing on his behalf, as they insisted it was not the best thing to say - especially just before you're faced with one of the UK's best quizzers on the ITV show.

"I’m a quiz setter = kiss of death… #TheChase," one fan wrote online, whilst a second penned in a short note posted on their social media account: "Never goes well when they say they’re quiz masters."

A third wrote: "NEVER EVER say you're a quizzer on national TV!" as a fourth added: "Don't pronounce the Q word if you haven't won."

Luckily for Alex, he made it back with a total of £4,000 for the team - but they were caught in the final chase.

It comes after host Bradley Walsh admitted he could be retiring from The Chase soon.

Alex managed to make it back to the group - but they lost the final chase (ITV)

"You know what, in a couple of years time I won’t have to do any of it, I’ll be retired and that’ll be it," he said.

"I don’t actually have time off. I have meetings, I have personal appearances I have to make and stuff like that with other things I’ve got going on, so it’s quite tricky to juggle it about."

He added: "The Chase allows me to do the other stuff which I really want to do – not that I don’t love doing The Chase."
