The Chase descends into chaos as contestants 'break rules twice' in final round of Virgin Media show

Viewers watching Virgin Media's The Chase were left irritated with one team, after they broke the game show rules twice within minutes.

Host Bradley Walsh welcomed four hopefuls onto the show who all tried their hand at the cash builder round before taking on Chaser Mark Labbett.

After one contestant was eliminated, Fergus, Carey and Ness made it through as a team of three.

The trio made a team effort and managed to play with 14 spaces as they went up against Mark for the final time.

In the final round, players attempt to push back the Chaser if they get a question wrong - but walk away with nothing if they are caught before the time runs out.

However, as they tried to rack up the points, they made two "wrong person answers" which wasted crucial time, Daily Star reports.

The presenter asked them to name what type of vehicle a Mini Moke is and Carey buzzed to answer.

However, Fergus spoke over her and responded with Mini Cooper.

Bradley then exclaimed that he had given a "wrong person answer" and continued on with the quiz.

The host even called out the players after the round had finished and they looked sheepish as they received the scolding.

He then asked them to clarify the name of an Italian mountain and the players took a moment to process the answer.

Ness then pressed her buzzer, but to viewer's dismay Fergus once again answered for a co-star.

He requested Bradley to "pass," but the host could neither pass nor accept Ness' answer due to the fact that he had spoken over her.

Walsh once again announced that it was a "wrong person answer" and went on to ask them the final questions.

Fans took to Twitter in rage to share their thoughts on the rule break.

One fan wrote: "Did this team bother to read the rules before coming on this show?"

Another said: "Wrong person answer, twice. Never seen it [before] on The Chase, never mind twice," and signed off with a laughing face emoji.

Others responded with tweets of annoyance and one person even included a gif which showed actor Steve Carell as though he was grimacing at the news.

Irish viewers can watch The Chase on Virgin Media.
