The Challenge: Ride or Dies power rankings after part 1 of a grueling final

WARNING: SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU’VE SEEN THE LATEST EPISODE OF THE CHALLENGE!

Ready?

Season 38 of The Challenge is here: Ride or Dies, which pairs up competitors with one family member, friend or significant other as pairs try to win money. There are sure to be twists and turns that we’ll see throughout the season that might change everything.

As usual, we’ll do some power rankings each week to see who’s in the lead … and who could fall short.

In this week’s episode: THE FINAL HAS BEGUN. And … it’s going to last for 100 hours. In Part 1, we see one pair go home in a stunning moment.

1
Bananas and Nany

For any other pairing, I might be really concerned about some of them snapping at each other or sometimes not being on the same page in the middle of a final.

But not these two. They’re seasoned vets. They’re focused. And I think Bananas is trying to keep things light so they can get through 100 hours together.

Plus, they performed well: They got through riding on stationary bikes for a total of 100 kilometers (50 each), they did well playing the larger version of Ladder Toss that also included drink cups of a gross concoction, and they completed the tire-stacking challenge in which they had to put this season’s eliminated players in order. When things got tough in the station where they had to use a slingshot to hit targets, they dealt with it.

I still think they’re the favorites. But the margin is much closer with …

2
Devin and Tori

Wow. When Devin realized he was going to take one for the team and guzzle the gross drinks himself because Tori was a vegan — what a teammate — I knew these two were destined for something good.

And when I saw that they had to repeat the slingshot challenge from earlier this season, I knew they’d kill it because Devin’s so good at it.

Can they keep it up? We’re early into this final. Stay tuned.

3
Jordan and Aneesa

You had to figure they’d clash given how Jordan pushes his partners to their limits. But serious credit to Aneesa, who’s now fighting through an ankle injury and continuing to compete.

Barring something unforeseen, I don’t see them winning, but don’t count them out.

4
Horacio and Olivia (eliminated due to injury)

Heartbreaking. They were contenders, even after Olivia sliced her finger open in the Ladder Toss game.

But then, the slightshot backfired right into her nose, and the injury ended her day … which meant Horacio couldn’t continue either.

It was the worst way for the rookies of the year (greatest rookies in Challenge history?) to end a legendary run. But I hope they’ll be back and get right back here.
