The Challenge: Ride or Dies power rankings after ep. 5

Ready?

Season 38 of The Challenge is here: Ride or Dies, which pairs up competitors with one family member, friend or significant other as pairs try to win money. There are sure to be twists and turns that we’ll see throughout the season that might change everything.

As usual, we’ll do some power rankings each week to see who’s in the lead … and who could fall short.

In this week’s episode: One strong pair wins the weekly challenge … but makes a huge mess of the elimination selection before a pair of rookies go home in an intense edition of The Zone.

1
Bananas and Nany

They dodged a bullet. We all assumed that if Jay and Michele won this week’s challenge — Royal Relay, in which the pairs switched off swimming and rowing to grab and assemble large pieces of a crown — they would throw in these two as a huge power move.

Well, they won and didn’t do it. So Bananas and Nany stay at the top of the standings … for now.

2
Devin and Tori

They won their heat in the challenge, which means they’re still dominating. Good sign for them!

3
Jordan and Aneesa

Jordan is an inspiration week in and week out. That’s all.

4
Horacio and Olivia

No change here for any of the top four, especially when these two are right in the thick of the game both socially and in weekly challenges.

5
Kenny and Kaycee

I don’t love what I saw out of some other pairs this week, so the others move down and these siblings move up.

6
Laurel and Jakk

Hey, Jay and Michele: WHAT ARE YOU DOING? You don’t cross Laurel and certainly don’t do it for some fairly silly reasons. Michele felt uncertain about Laurel, so in these two went, and they won a tough elimination: Give Me Some Slack, in which the partners were strapped together on either side of a large puzzle. One partner shouted the solution to the other, who put together a smaller version of the correct puzzle.

Laurel and Jakk were good to begin with, but they showed this week why you don’t mess with them.

7
Darrell and Veronica

Sigh. I just don’t get what Veronica is doing by publicly calling out her friend Aneesa and nearly choosing her and Jordan to go into elimination after Veronica and Darrell got the SAFE dagger.

Yes, they made the right call sending in Kim and Colleen instead. But the warning shot at Aneesa wasn’t the best of moves.

8
Jay and Michele

I struggled with where to put them. Here seems good, because they did win a challenge this week, but they made a big mess of the elimination decision and now have a very angry Laurel coming back into the house looking for revenge.

9
Nelson and Nurys

Well at least last week was a good one for them!

10
Faysal and Moriah

Moriah struggled to row the boat. Not good! Thank goodness Faysal had the smarts to not push too hard on criticizing his partner and instead encouraged her. Also: Moriah and Bananas … are maybe a thing?

11
Chauncey and Amber

The only pair that was DQ’d because their boat capsized. That’s all you need to know about how things are going for them.

12
Kim and Colleen (eliminated)

They were close in their elimination bout against Laurel and Jakk. But they fell short. A pretty decent debut for both of them that included last week’s elimination win.
