Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has told his international stars that they'll be joining him Down Under for the Sydney Super Cup - but he'll be missing some familiar faces.
It's a homecoming for Postecoglou as he takes his Scottish Premiership side back to his homeland for clashes with Sydney FC and Everton on November 17 and 20.The tournament comes as Scotland boss Steve Clarke names his squad for next week's friendly in Turkey on Wednesday. But it won't include any Celtic players, with Hoops boss Postecoglou ruling they will play in the money-spinning tournament.
Greg Taylor, David Turnbull, Tony Ralston and James Forrest would all have been in contention. Postecoglou said: The international games coming up are not compulsory for us to release players. From our perspective, the Australian trip is an important part of our club and we want to take our strongest possible team. We will always be supportive of the national team and Steve Clarke has been great in terms of his relationship with the club. But all of our players who aren’t going to the World Cup will be coming with us.
“We’re obviously taking a team to Australia. People have bought tickets and want to see the best possible Celtic side there."
Aaron Mooy has been named in the Australia squad to join Japan forward Daizen Maeda in being confirmed for the tournament in Qatar, while Reo Hatate, Kyogo Furuhashi and Denmark U21 international Matt O'Riley have missed out. USA defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is awaiting news of his fate, Jota is in a larger provisional squad for Portugal.
