Sarah Jessica Parker is a very private woman.
After all, she is not actually Carrie Bradshaw (as she keeps insisting, even though none of us want to hear it), so she doesn’t particularly like having her private life splashed across the papers.
However, yesterday’s appearance was so cute so we’re making an exception. And so did SJP: despite typically keeping her family life to herself, the actress, 57, made the decision to bring her adorable twin daughters as her plus ones to last night’s Hocus Pocus 2 premiere.
What do we know about them?
As part of her private nature, SJP can be quite particular about what she posts on social media, so she rarely shares pictures of her children, especially not with their faces revealed.
This means her daughters’ appearance at the Hocus Pocus 2 premiere is an especially big deal - or maybe it’s just the first film premiere they can turn up to that’s age appropriate, with zero risk of Samatha Jones one liners.
In a rare (almost) whole family photo, SJP was seen posing with her daughters Tabitha and Marion, both 13, and husband Matthew Broderick, 60, on the red carpet.
SJP, or, sorry, SJ, has also previously divulged a few personal details about the birth of her twins, who were conceived via surrogate. Speaking to Vogue US, she said: “We tried and tried and tried and tried to get pregnant. It just was not to be, I would give birth…if I could.
“Meeting your children rather than giving birth to them, it’s as if, um, it’s suspended animation. The gestational experience is gone... it’s so different, and equally extraordinary… But it’s amazing.”
Parker and Broderick’s surrogate, Michelle Ross, gave birth in 2009 in Ohio, but the girls have lived in New York their whole lives. We know she hates the constant Carrie comparisons, but SJP is just as much of a through-and-through New Yorker.
Does SJP have any other children?
Yes, she does! In fact, this wasn’t even the first time a member of the Parker x Broderick offspring has graced the red carpet with their mum. Just last year their eldest, 19-year-old James Wilkie Broderick, accompanied SJP to the New York premiere of Sex and the City spin-off series “And Just Like That”.
James has actually accompanied his parents to premieres since he was young - even when they aren’t in the movie. Hence this adorable pic of him meeting Daniel Radcliffe at the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Nowadays James is off studying at Brown University in Rhode Island, and SJP sometimes posts long, cryptic Instagram captions about him growing up and flying the nest.
In one from October 28 last year, she writes: “He is 19. Today. He doesn't wake with us. He is in his life. Away. In his studies. Among new friends. Sending home details. There is so much to tell. New adults making lasting impressions. Opening his still young eyes. New thoughts. New books. New and different mornings. On this one, it's bittersweet. Not to be with him. To wish him the most happiest of birthdays. Our Scorpio. Our Oct baby. Our JW. Happy Birthday. Balloons. Candles. Hoping every birthday wish to come true. Xxx, Mama.” Intense. Love her.
Where have we seen SJP’s kids before?
Other than their sporadic red carpet appearances, we are also very occasionally treated to inside snaps of the SJP clan’s family life via her Instagram. But, much like the strange blue eye of Sauron in her profile picture, Parker likes to do it in her own way.
Last year, for example, the actress shared three pictures of her children leaving for school, facing away from the camera, as they started the new educational year. It was peak classy mum on Instagram behaviour.
The caption read: “In the span of 7 days. One crosses the threshold into his freshman year of college. The other 2 into 7th grade. The house is different. We are different. They need us more. And far less. So many know. Gutted at the time passed. Passing. Exhilarated by the possibilities that await them. The love. The love. The love. X, SJ.”
The miracle of the, uh, gestational experience is quite something, but SJP seems perfectly close to Tabitha and Marion, and the pair are growing to look more and more like their mum.
I mean, they also look like they could be HAIM sisters, but that’s pretty much just any woman with long brown hair.
