The Cardiff City player ratings as Tommy Doyle dazzles and super sub causes Derby County problems

Alex Smithies 8

Made a world-class save to stop Ravel Morrison scoring. Also gathered a number of tricky crosses, too.

Perry Ng 7

Uncharacteristically dicey in possession early on and came off second best in a couple of tackles, too. But really improved. Put a lovely ball in for Ikpeazu.

Aden Flint 7

A solid outing, defensively, from the big centre-back. Misplaced the odd pass, though.

Mark McGuinness 5

Cards on the table, he wasn't at his best. Gave the ball away far too often and was a little sloppy defensively.

Cody Drameh 7

Didn't have as much joy as usual but still looked threatening at times. A few crosses needed to beat the first man, though.

Ryan Wintle 7

Does make a difference at the base of this midfield. Cardiff needed him to have his wits about him, and his pace, against the Rams.

Joe Ralls 7

Tried to bring an air of calm to Cardiff's midfield and grew into the match as it went on. Struck the bar with a stunning effort.

Tommy Doyle 8 (star man)

Another whose influence grew throughout the night. Sent one monster effort crashing into the bar from 30 yards and covered every blade of grass.

Joel Bagan 6

Festy Ebosele had the better of him with his incredible pace. Put in a couple of nice crosses in attack, though.

Jordan Hugill 7

Looked the most likely to give Cardiff a platform and toiled away. Sent a first half header narrowly over the bar.

Isaak Davies 6

Struggled with Derby's physicality and even when he was put in space he struggled to exploit it. Booked early on, too.

Subs

Uche Ikpeazu (on for Hugill 66) 8 - Really put himself about and caused Rams a problem. Took his chance excellently.

Mark Harris (on for Davies 71) 6 - Stretched the Derby defence late on. A decent outing.

Alfie Doughty (on for Bagan 72) 6 - Did well enough replacing Bagan, but booked for a poor challenge.
