The Cardiff City injury bulletin as star striker hopes to play against Coventry and Rubin Colwill update given

Cardiff City's interim boss Mark Hudson says Callum Robinson is pushing hard to shake off his recent knock at Wigan Athletic.

Robinson was replaced just before half-time at the DW Stadium, having opened the scoring for the Bluebirds as they marched on to a well-earned 3-1 win.

It remains to be seen whether he will be fit for the visit of Coventry City on Saturday, but Hudson insists the Republic of Ireland international is working hard to make himself available.

"He took a pretty heavy whack in the game at Wigan," Hudson said. "Testament to him he continued as long as he could. He’s not been on the grass for the first part of the week, but he’s looking to shake off some bits today. So fingers crossed he comes through.

"He’s a bit of a doubt. Like I said, he took a heavy whack and he continued for as long as he could, which shows his mentality. We’ve been working hard with the physios to try and get that to settle."

Robinson has been in terrific form since arriving in the capital, having grabbed two goals and earned three assists since his deadline day move from West Bromwich Albion, and Hudson admits the forward is desperate to get the chance to continue his momentum.

"He’s been brilliant since he came in," he added. "He's great to have around the group. He’s a leader and he’s got good experience of this level, and his form’s been really good.

"He’s one you want to keep on the grass. Keep him involved in the team, and we know how important he is to us. We just have to wait and see towards the weekend with him."

Another player that will be desperate to return to action is Wales international Rubin Colwill, whose lack of game time will likely be a concern so close to the World Cup.

Colwill's season has largely been stunted by injury, with a hip flexor problem the latest issue to overcome, and he hasn't yet returned to full training.

However, Hudson says the mercurial youngster is closing in on a return to the first team set-up.

"Rubin completed half a session at the beginning of the week but he’s not fully trained yet," he said.

"We’re looking to have him back sooner rather than later, but he’s getting close, which is good.

"He’s had a lot of work to do in and around strengthening his physique, which is something we planned for him.

Asked whether Colwill might just squeak his way into contention for Saturday, Hudson admitted: "I'm not sure yet.

"He’s got some protocols to complete. He’s not completed a full training session yet. We’re looking forward to having him around and available for selection as soon as possible."

Fellow Wales youngster Isaak Davies also remains some way off as he bids to bounce back from a knee injury.

"Isaak has touched the grass for the first time but there’s a return to play protocol.

"He’s quite a way away from pushing towards the squad yet. He’s got lots of boxes to tick just yet."

One player yet to return to the training pitch is Mahlon Romeo, who's also a doubt for the visit of the Sky Blues after picking up a recent ankle injury.

"He’s another player diligent with his work," Hudson added. "He’s worked really hard with the physios. He’s looking to push, but he’s a doubt as well.

"He hasn’t been on the grass yet. We’ll have to wait and see with him."
