Story update: One day after being signed by the Eagles on Wednesday, Sterns was released by Philadelphia on Thursday. See our original post below.
Caden Sterns has had quite a trying year in the NFL.
Last fall, in the Denver Broncos’ first game of the 2023 season on Sept. 10, Sterns tore the patellar tendon in his knee and the team placed him on injured reserve on Sept. 13, 2023. Sterns then missed the final 16 games of the year and spent this offseason rehabbing from the injury.
Sterns finally passed a physical with the Broncos in late July this year, but he was waived a few days later on Aug. 5. Then the rollercoaster began.
The safety was picked up by the Carolina Panthers on Aug. 6, but they waived him with a failed physical designation on Aug. 8. After that, Sterns signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 11, only to be cut with a non-football injury designation on Aug. 27. Sterns signed with Philly’s practice squad one day later, but he was cut again on Sept. 3.
Now, just over one year removed from when he initially suffered the knee injury, Sterns re-signed with the Eagles practice squad on Sept. 11. It’s been quite a journey for the 24-year-old safety. Fans in Denver will hope that Sterns is able to fully recover and get back on the field in Philadelphia.
