The Brits viewers "cringe" over Tom Grennan's 'boob' comment to Ellie Goulding as they switch off over 'awkward' awards

Viewers were 'cringing' as singers Tom Grennan and Ellie Goulding teamed up to present an award at The Brits. As Little Bit Of Love and Lionheart hitmaker Tom and Love Me Like You Do and Burn singer Ellie stepped out on stage together, Ellie looked stunning in a black breastplate-style top with wide-legged trousers.

But viewers were taken aback when Tom brought attention to her top, saying "I love what you're doing." And then he asked: "They're real boobs?"

"These are not no," she replied about the top's added breast detail. "I wish." "Ah sorry," Tom replied. And Ellie continued: "Mine are a lot further apart." "Oh okay," he told her.

@HannahColley tweeted about the moment: "This was so uncomfortable to watch." @MeeraJade asked: "Did we just open the door to the past?!"

@AshJamIng wrote: "I almost cringed myself into a different millennia." @michsu81 tweeted: "This was hard to watch." And @depplyhaIIows said: "I had to replay and make sure I heard that correctly WTF?????"

Viewers were left underwhelmed earlier in the night when Beyonce won best international artist. But awards announcers Georgia May Jagger and Happy Valley star Rhys Connah were left introducing a video screen message from the megastar instead because she couldn't be there.

@TajaChristian tweeted: "Beyoncé said thanks for the statue but I’ll see you on tour." @Bob71136804 commented: "Awk." And @marcusjdl wrote: "Well this is all very awkward."

Other viewers complained that The Brit Awards 2023, the 43rd edition of the ceremony to recognise the best in British and international music, has been moved from its traditional mid-week slot to Saturday night. @IndeedItsMark asked: "I wonder what possess @ITV to show #TheBrits on Saturday night prime time."

Viewers said it was awkward (ITV)

They added: "Like the target audience are going to be out partying/clubbing whereas us fogies are sitting here thinking who the hell is that?"

@SallyRevell made the point: "#TheBrits on a Saturday seems wrong. I’m sure it was always a Tuesday?" And @yasmin_ali10 said: "It's #brits night. Always liked it on a Tuesday night, why change it to a weekend this year?"

@Itt39354118 asked: "What the hells this?" A fed-up @cherrystreet71 said: "#thebrits That's enough & goodnight." @GiuliaBould commented: "No idea what's going on at the #BRITs here. Switching off. Clearly I'm too old for whatever this is." And @taylor_golub wrote: "I miss the 90s and early 2000s."

Cheshire's Harry Styles thanked his former One Direction bandmates as he won Artist of the Year at the BRIT Awards. The night's big winner also won Best Album for Harry's House, Best Pop and R&B Act and Song of the Year for As It Was. And rapper Aitch, from Moston, took the award home to "0161" for Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act.
