The Bristol Spooky Market at The Exchange returns

The Bristol Spooky Market is returning once again to raise funds for The Sophie Lancaster Foundation - in the hope it will encourage others to shop locally and celebrate difference.

On April 23, shoppers will expect to see all things alternative: from Victorian to goth-based clothes, art, antiques and much more, with every mandatory entry donation going to The Sophie Lancaster Foundation.

The event will take place at The Exchange from 12pm to 3pm, with this year being reported to have received over 150 applications from traders to potentially participate in the April market.

Founded by Opal Wilde, a local DJ, actor and designer, the market is in support of The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, that was formed in honour of Lancashire’s late Sophie Lanchester, who was tragically murdered in a hate crime against alternative subcultures.

Since the organisation’s establishment, Sophie’s mother Sylvia has actively worked to provide educational tools to combat intolerance towards people of alternative subcultures.

She has since been successful in having the UK Hate Crime legislation extended to include people from alternative subcultures as a marginalised community.

The previous Bristol Spooky Market in December has additionally helped raise a whopping total of £115 in voluntary entry donations for the Foundation.
