The Bristol restaurants helping Ukraine one plate at a time

The past few weeks have seen a devastating crisis unfold in Ukraine, due to the ongoing conflict with Russia. People from all over have banded together in their communities to find ways to help, Bristolians included.

The city has seen multiple protests as well as collections to raise donations to send to Ukrainians in need. Local florists and plant shops have even found ways to help - selling Ukraine's national flower (sunflowers), and donating the proceeds to charities helping towards the crisis.

Bristol's food scene has also pledged their support with various restaurants hosting dedicated fundraiser events with the proceeds going to charities supporting Ukraine. Many others have joined the #CookForUkraine initiative, started by London Chefs Clerkenwell Boy, Alissa Timoshkina and Olivia Hercules, who are raising money for Ukraine between March 10 and March 24 to be distributed by UNICEF.

The Ethicurean Restaurant has stepped up and asked the wider Bristol Food family to donate raffle prizes to raise money and have already managed to secure prizes that are any foodies dream.

You can enter the raffle for £20, with all proceeds going towards supporting Ukraine, with the potential to secure dinner for two at Casamia, dinner for two at Little French or Pasta Loco, a £100 gift voucher to any Bianchis Group restaurant, a Carpathian cooking class from Papadeli or two tickets to Valley Fest 2022. Select Bristol restaurants are stepping up to add an automatic pound to bills in support of CookForUkraine.

Chef, Olia Hercules has kindly given permission for her Tartare steamed dumpling recipe to be shared widely and so over the next two weeks, citizens of Bristol can pledge their support by getting to get cooking and making dumplings to sell in schools, workplaces and across communities. Profits from the sale of dumplings and any funds raised through individuals or restaurants will be donated directly to #CookForUkraine here.

A number of Bristol restaurants are also hosting their own individual campaigns to raise money. Koocha Mezze bar has said that any money they make from people eating at their restaurant on Tuesday March 15, from 5pm to 10pm, will be donated to The DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) Ukraine Humanitarian fund appeal.

DEC charities are in Ukraine and neighbouring countries meeting the needs of all refugees and displaced people that are caught up in this conflict. Koocha staff will also be donating their tips from the evening's service to the appeal.

Adelina Yard is also hosting an event for charity. Taking to Instagram the team wrote: "We are all shocked and saddened by the events of what’s happening in the Ukraine and we all want to do our part to help those affected by the conflict.

"We at Adelina Yard have decided to open our doors for a Sunday feast to help out. We will be doing a late lunch on the 13th for @actionagainsthungeruk £35 per head with 100% of the proceeds going to charity. We are taking reservations via email, phone call or direct message. Limited spaces so first come first served for those who want to get involved."

Boston Tea Party have also pledged its support, writing on Instagram: "This Saturday we are donating 100% of the profits from our sales, a minimum of £10,000, to the British Red Cross in support of their Ukraine Crisis Appeal. This will help provide food, clean water, shelter support, warm clothing, first aid and medicines to those in urgent need".
