The Arctic Monkeys are in Swansea tonight, Monday, June 12, and recently they revealed a particularly Welsh way to gee themselves up ahead of performing on some of the biggest stages in the world. The Sheffield lads are keen on using the one and only Tom Jones to bring the energy to the dressing room.
If you're going to the gig at the Swansea.com Stadium you can find out all you need to know, here and for Tom Jones' live Welsh dates, find out more, here. This Swansea gig comes hot on the heels of Coldplay and Beyonce in Cardiff and also kicks off a summer of live music in Swansea, more on those big gigs in the city by the sea, here.
As the band embarked on their UK leg of touring latest album, The Car, they revealed that they warm up to Jones' 1965 banger, It's Not Unusual.
"It's like our little moment," drummer Matt Helders told the BBC. "Before we walk on, backstage, we all have a little dance. We're pretty tight. We've got a good thing going."
He added: "Barry White definitely gets us in the mood but Tom Jones even more so, in terms of pace and speed and getting us pumped to do a gig."
Back in 2007, Treforest-born Jones actually covered the band's 2005 debut single I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor for a charity concert and was accused of ruining the song. He told NME in 2021: "The only feedback we got were the reviews which said we’d ruined it!” Jones said. “We were going to release it, but the reviews were so bad we thought better of putting it out!”
The Alex Turner-fronted band will wrap up their UK tour with a third headline appearance at the Glastonbury Festival on Friday, 23 June.
