The brand new Glasgow walkway that looks like San Francisco’s Lombard Street

A brand new walkway in the city centre of Glasgow due to be open soon looks very similar to San Francisco’s, very own infamous Lombard Street.

The walkway is located on Baird Street with the pathway connecting the soon to be opened, Sighthill Bridge, crossing over the M8. The bridge will reconnect the North of Glasgow to the city centre.

Lombard Street is in the state of California and is known as “the crookedest street in the world” which is located in the northeast of the city on the hill that is named, ‘Russian Hill.’

At Glasgow Live - we did not get to visit to the famous street in San Francisco - but we did go along to the brand new Glasgow walkway just off of Baird Street.

Lombard Street, in San Francisco, is famous for its steep, one block sections and hairpin turns and is very popular with car enthusiasts, road lovers and tourists.

However, on arrival to Baird Street, the walkway from the picture shows an easier path that prams, bikes and people can go up or down with ease

Glasgow residents will know of the excitement of the Sighthill Bridge, opening soon and this adds to the effort added to the redevelopment of the area.

Glasgow City Council has not confirmed that the soon to be open walkway was inspired by the ever so famous, Lombard Street in San Francisco but they do look similar.

The Sighthill Bridge, along with the walkway is due to be open next week which is part of the Glasgow City Region Deal which is contributing £250 million for the regeneration of the area.
