The Block contestant Ricky Recard has addressed claims that he cheated on his ex-partner with a makeup artist he met on the show.
The 34-year-old plumber appeared on Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev & Nick on Tuesday alongside his partner on the show Hayden Wise to chat about the renovation series. But after he was labelled a “love rat” by his jilted ex-girlfriend in the media a day prior, it was only natural that the breakfast radio trio asked him about it.
“Love rat is a bit harsh,” he said.
“I was pretty shocked. I’m shocked when anyone goes to the media about that sort of stuff, that’s not really my style. I don’t have anything bad to say about her.”
Although he didn’t directly refute the cheating rumours, the season 20 heartthrob did confirm that the rumours he was in a relationship with makeup artist Erin Lee were true.
He explained he met Erin a day before filming began during a launch day they had on Phillip Island where the show is filmed. From there, they fell in love.
“I was lucky enough to meet Erin just before filming started on The Block, on one of the launching days we had down there,” he said.
“The Block is apparently good for a couple of things, it’s not only building dream houses for potential families but also a love story there as well. We’re very happy.”
In case you missed it, Ricky’s ex-girlfriend Lauren Smith told the Daily Mail that she was “absolutely blindsided” by Ricky’s relationship with Erin.
“I spent three months looking after his dogs and his house while also helping his employee with the business. We were due to go at the beginning of July for my 30th birthday but we broke up about two weeks after he got back from filming,” she said.
“I found out while I was in Mexico that he had apparently begun a relationship with Erin during the time I was away,” she alleged.
Erin’s ex-husband Lucas Day also spoke to the Daily Mail, telling the publication that they’re “separated now” and he’s “dealt with it”.
“They got together after we split when he got back from Mexico in July and we were done then,” he said.
It’s worth noting that Lucas and Lauren’s timelines don’t match up, so I’d take these claims with a grain of salt.
Either way, Ricky and Erin seem very happy together and I love that for them.
