The Block fans were devo when Ricky and Haydn were stitched up by their builder Miller last night.
The pair ended up having to fire him in an awkward moment caught on camera, and have since told PEDESTRIAN.TV it was a risky move that puts them at a “disadvantage”.
ICYMI, Miller skived off work at 5pm on the dot, claiming he had to deal with a personal situation. Turns out he left early to catch a concert with his partner — we’ve all been there! It’s just a bit harder to get away with when you’re on national television.
After a bunch of issues with their waterproofing and setbacks that basically rule the pair out of finishing their room this week, Ricky finally got rid of their builder. He said the past couple of weeks have been a “fucking disaster” and while Miller is a “cracking dude”, there was no way the team could go on like this.
The pair told PEDESTRIAN.TV the toll of constant setbacks finally reached a breaking point, saying: “We didn’t see things changing under the extreme pressure of The Block and based on the issues with our main ensuite, we made the decision to part ways.
“It was difficult to fire Miller as we had developed great friendships with him and his apprentice Mitch over the three weeks, however The Block isn’t your normal building site.”

The duo knew they had to make a drastic decision to increase their chances of making bank at the end of the competition, but had to weigh up whether it could come back to bite them. Firing your builder at this stage of the competition is pretty unusual, so you just know things were bad.
“Getting rid of your builder on The Block at any stage is a disadvantage as you must find a new builder very quickly and then bring them up to speed with your build, design ideas and processes,” the pair spilled.
Luckily, Ricky and Haydn found a new builder who was “available immediately” and was already familiar with the reality TV show. Phew!
The Block fans share disappointment for Ricky and Haydn
These two blokes are easily becoming fan favourites with their chill personalities, so viewers were super disappointed in last night’s episode.
Over on Reddit, the folks have been praising the pair for their maturity and response to the whole builder situation. Their reaction was a lil’ different than what you’d expect from someone in, say, House 1 (AKA the couple that quits later on in the season).

“I think it really speaks to the character of the boys that they’re doing their interview about letting the builder go after he ultimately messed things up for them so badly and they’re still talking about how he’s a great builder… just not a good fit for The Block with the pressure,” one person noted.
“The craziest thing [about this whole situation] is that none of it has been their fault,” another added.
“I’m completely and utterly dejected, gutted and heartbroken for ‘em,” a third wrote.
Fingers crossed their new builder turns things around and Ricky and Haydn start scoring big in the weeks to come!
