Fan-favourite Blockheads, Jess Eva and Norm Hogan, have sent shockwaves throughout The Block fandom after revealing that they called it quits on their relationship three years ago. What a secret to sit on!
In an exclusive interview with New Idea, the duo spilled the beans about their heart-shattering relationship status (or should we say lack of), revealing that they thought it was a bit “up ourselves” if they announced their split publicly.
“Norm and I split three years ago now,” Jess told the publication.
“But we still love one another, we’re still the best of friends, and we are still family.
“There’s no drama, but we both thought it was a bit ‘up ourselves’ to publicly announce we’d separated at the time.”
For folks who need a refresher, Jess and Norm competed on The Block back in 2018. While they didn’t win their season, they won the hearts of Aussies, instantly becoming fan favourites!
Why did Jess Eva and Norm Hogan split?
Alongside the shock revelation, Jess explained that they’d been “fighting a lot”. As a result, The Block fan faves ultimately decided to put an end to their romantic connection.
“It was really just an accumulation of small things and pressures,” Jess admitted.
“One day, we were both sitting in our backyard, having a beer in front of the fire pit, and I just said, ‘Norm, I love you, but we can’t keep going like this.’ He said, ‘I love you too — and I agree.’”
“The only thing that has changed about how we feel about each other is our relationship status,” Norm added.
Despite the end of the romantic connection, the duo are still co-parenting their kiddos, Freddie, 11, and Matilda, eight.
They also still share their home in Sydney — with Norm occasionally returning to Victoria to look after his parents — but sleep in separate bedrooms.
When they broke the news to their kiddos, the pair admitted they were “pooping themselves”. However, Freddie and Matilda were seemingly “unfazed” by the announcement that they ran outside to play some b-ball after the family meeting.
“We were pooping ourselves but eventually, we sat them down and said that there’s two kinds of divorces,” Jess continued.
“There’s bad divorce where it can get mean or there’s fighting – or there’s ‘best friending’. Then I said, ‘Daddy and I have decided we want to try best friending.’”
Despite the end of their romantic ties, it’s clear that their friendship will last a lifetime! The pair even announced recently that they’ve worked together on the first season of Budget Battlers, which is expected to air on Nine later this year.
