The Boston Celtics formed one of the most dominant trios in NBA history with Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen in the late 2000s. This powerhouse team was very well constructed through the combined efforts of coach Doc Rivers and team president Danny Ainge.
Rivers and Ainge had a strong partnership built on mutual trust and respect. Though they sometimes disagreed on personnel decisions and basketball strategy, they always presented a united front, and their synergy was critical to the team’s success. Ainge made bold moves to bring star talent to Boston by adding Garnett and Allen to Pierce, and the rest was, as they say, history.
Now, on a recent episode of the Showtime Basketball “KG Certified” podcast, KG, Pierce, and Doc reconvened to talk about the origin of the 2008 title team.
