It's hard to believe it but it has now been close to 40 years since The Bill first hit TV screens.
Anyone one of a certain age will have fond memories of the ITV show, especially its iconic end credits with the famous feet walking away and last year we got see those titles roll again as The Bill: The Early Years kicked off on UKTV Play.
The show first aired way back in 1983 and some of its most popular characters marked the occasion of its comeback by joining together for a virtual reunion last April. Trudie Goodwin (WPC June Ackland), Chris Ellison (DI Frank Burnside), Eric Richard (Sgt Bob Cryer), Mark Wingett (PC Jim Carver) and Graham Cole (PC Tony Stamp) were all involved and, sticking to Sun Hill protocol, did so in full uniform.

The actors took questions from fans about their characters and The Bill's many guest stars over the years, some of them who went onto be huge stars, including Kiera Knightley, David Tennant and Emma Bunton.
But, while The Bill was a breeding ground for future A-listers, it's Sun Hill regulars we're turning the spotlight on as we ask where are they now?
June Ackland - Trudi Goodwin
One of Sun Hill's best known faces and much loved characters, Trudie played WPC June Ackland for 24 years, being involved in a number of huge storylines, including a romance with colleague Jim and being duped by Gabriel Kent, played by Todd Carty, who was in fact not Gabriel, but his adopted brother David hell bent on revenge.
The now 69-year-old continued to act after her Bill days, appearing as Georgia Sharma in Emmerdale for four years, and Casualty.
June has a famous child - her daughter Elly is none other than In for The Kill and Bulletproof singer La Roux.
Tosh - Kevin Lloyd
Another huge presence in Sun Hill and in the cast, Kevin starred as Tosh for many years but his alcohol problem led to him being sacked from the show in 1998 after turning up to the set and struggling with his lines
The actor admitted himself to a residential rehab clinic in a bid to get sober, but left the facility to go on a deadly drinking binge.
He died after choking on his own vomit at the age of 49, just a week after filming his final scenes on The Bill.
George Rossi - Duncan Lennox
Another former Bill favourite sadly passed away at the start of this year. The awful news was broken online by his niece Louise, who wrote on Twitter: “Unfortunately George Rossi who played DC Duncan Lennox passed away the morning of Wednesday 5th January 2022. She added: “This is my uncle. He was acting still up until recently. Unfortunately he passed away yesterday morning.”
George appeared in almost 200 episodes of police drama The Bill between the years of 1993 and 2003.
Reg Hollis - Jeff Stewart
Jeff was left distraught after being told his services were no longer required by The Bill producers after 24 years on the show.
The now 65-year-old attempted suicide in 2008 after being told his contract wasn't being renewed, but survived after calling for help and being taken to hospital.
He later said: "I love being an actor. My work as an actor is very important to me - it's my life, and the thought of this suddenly changing had an extremely serious effect on me."
The Scottish actor didn't give up on acting though and after taking on the role of a German-Russian man in a Soviet prison in Under Jakob's Ladder, he won Best Actor at the Manhattan Film Festival.
Frank Burnside - Chris Ellison
Frank's no nonsense attitude and tough manner from 1984 - 2000, landed Chris a spin-off series, Burnside, but it was axed after just one series.
Since The Bill, Chris has starred in EastEnders, Judge John Deed, New Tricks and his most surprising role to date saw him go into the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2015 for the UK v USA special, also featuring the likes of Janice Dickinson, Natasha Hamilton and eventual winner James Hill.
Last year he wrote a book about his time on The Bill, called Witness Statements. Chris. now 65, appeared on Good Morning Britain in April 2022 to raise awareness over aphasia, the same speech debilitating illness that Hollywood actor Bruce Willis suffers from. Anita told the show's hoists: "‘At first, he didn’t want to go on TV or want anyone to know, and then I said to him, now everyone will know… now hopefully people will understand."
Bob Cryer - Eric Richard
Eric, now 80, was on the show for two decades, with Bob running the rule over many new recruits he became a real force to be reckoned with at Sun Hill.
Shortly after his exit from The Bill, Eric suffered a family tragedy as his two-month-old grandson Charlie Smith was killed in the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami in Sri Lanka. Charlie was the youngest known British victim of the disaster.
Eric carried on acting after his long-serving stint as Bob, starring in Oscar-winning film Stutterer, and war film Dunkirk.
Tony Stamp - Graham Cole
Another long serving cast member, Graham played Tony for 25 years, from 1984 to 2009.

Graham received an OBE in 2010.
Dave Quinnan - Andrew Paul
Tony's partner in crime, Dave had a number of big storylines during his time at Sun Hill, kicked almost to death by a gang of thugs and having to spend several weeks in hospital on a drip and falling in love with a colleague's girlfriend.
Dave was eventually transferred out of Sun Hill after successfully undertaking undercover work, which tied in with Andrew's decision to leave The Bill after 13 years.
Since leaving the show, Andrew has starred in Where The Heart Is, Casualty and Coronation Street, where he played a love interest for Liz McDonald.
Polly Page - Lisa Geoghan
Lisa played Polly from 1992 - 2004 with her big storylines including Polly's relationship with Dave.
Lisa took a year off from the police drama after her son was born and, after returning for a while, she decided to leave permanently to concentrate on being a mum.

Bill Murray - Don Beech
After initially appearing in the show in a much smaller role in 1989, Bill joined The Bill as notoriously dodgy copper Don Beech in 1995.
After leaving in 2001, Bill reprised the role of Sun Hill's resident villain in a special spin-off episode entitled Beech on the Run, which was followed by the six-part mini-series Beech is Back.
In 2004, Bill made his final appearance as Beech for a guest stint in five episodes, in which his character escaped from prison.
After quitting The Bill for good, Bill went onto appear in EastEnders, playing another evil character, gangster Johnny Allen, the man responsible for the death of the much loved Albert Square heartthrob Dennis Rickman.
Jonny was killed off in 2006 after suffering a heart attack in prison, with Bill winning Best Villain at the British Soap Awards that year.
He has since appeared in British films like Rollin' with the Nines (2006), Rise of the Footsoldier (2007), Doghouse (2009) and Dead Cert (2010).
Sam Nixon - Lisa Maxwell
Lisa made DI Nixon a real matriarch of Sun Hill, joining the cast in late 2001 and filming her last scenes in March 2009.
Since The Bill, Lisa, 57, has been a regular panellist on Loose Women and appeared in Hollyoaks as Tracey Donovan, mum of Grace, Adam, Liam and Jesse. She was also a contestant on Celebrity Masterchef.
Phil Hunter - Scott Maslen
Scott, 49, played Phil for five years, before switching channels from ITV to BBC to play Jack Branning in EastEnders.
Scott, famous on-screen brother of Jake Wood's Max, is still in the thick of the action on Albert Square, having enjoyed romances with the likes of Ronnie (Samantha Womack) and Mel (Tamzin Outhwaite). He is currently in the thick of some parenting drama in EastEnders after Sam Mitchell's shock return to Walford and her plans to manipulate Jack into helping her family by using son Ricky as blackmail.
Will Fletcher - Gary Lucy
Will joined Sun Hill at a tough time for the relief, replacing PC Powell the day after his funeral. After a big promotion in January 2010, Will transferred out of Sun Hill after just over four years there, joining Westminster CID.
Gary, 39, joined The Bill after stints in both Hollyoaks and Footballers Wives and has since returned to Hollyoaks, reached the final of Dancing on Ice and starred in EastEnders as Danny Pennant. He also stripped off for the acclaimed stage adaptation of The Full Monty.
