The biggest mistake people make during Amazon Prime Day sale and what to avoid

A major sales event, like Amazon Prime Day, can be a great way to save money but it can become easily overwhelming especially if it's your first time shopping the sale.

If you've never heard of phrases like 'Lightning Deals' or have no clue what a 'Prime member' is then you may be left scratching your head or heading for the close button when Amazon Prime Day arrives next week. Taking place over 48 hours, Amazon will host Amazon Prime Day from July 12 and will give shoppers discounts of thousands of products.

There is a way where you can make the sale event simple and even fun, and you've come to the right place if you want to find out what mistake to avoid, and to get the best tips to shop for this year's Amazon Prime Day.

It's important to remember that this annual two-day event is exclusive to Amazon Prime members. So it goes without saying that if you want to shop the Prime Day sale, you’ll have to have an Amazon Prime account. You can sign up for a free 30-day trial here, or you can pay £7.99 a month or £79 a year.

This is the main mistake people tend to make on the day itself, they are either not signed up to Amazon Prime or not logged in and perhaps don't remember their log-in details.

The difference in price for Prime members and non-Prime members on Amazon Prime Day is by quite a lot, so it's definitely worth making sure you are signed up or logged in before the sales event starts. Non-Prime members can still find good deals at Amazon during the event, but these won’t be nearly as big as the official Prime Day sale.

Another thing to avoid is turning off your Amazon emails. It is hard to keep people out of the spammy folder but in the weeks leading up to Amazon Prime Day I would leave the Amazon emails in your main inbox, and if you're not signed up to the latest news from them, then do so here.

I'm signed up and I've just received a special code ahead of Amazon Prime Day to get up to 50% off movies and TV shows via Amazon Prime Video, only for Prime members.

The deals in the lead-up to the event can actually sometimes be better than on the day itself, so keep an eye on their landing page here and on your emails!

Amazon is know for its Daily Deals section and many shoppers tend to dive into this page during the day so don't be disheartened if something sells-out quickly. It's worth checking what their best-sellers were last year so you are prepared for this. Amazon Lightning Deals are a promotion in which a limited number of discounts are offered on an item for a short period, so keep an eye on these here.
