The biggest gigs in Scottish history as fans prepare for Taylor Swift

TAYLOR Swift looks likely to break the record for Scotland’s biggest-selling stadium show when she performs at Murrayfield this week.

The pop sensation will be performing at Murrayfield on June 7, 8 and 9 with promoter AEG Presents being granted permission to increase the stadium’s capacity by 8.73% from 67,130 to 72,990.

Here’s a look at some of the other biggest gigs in Scotland in recent years.

Who holds the current record?

The Eras Tour gigs are likely to see Swift unseat Harry Styles as the current record holder following his concert at the same venue in 2023.

More than 65,000 fans attended in 2023 and, prior to this, Styles’ band One Direction held the title for selling 64,000 tickets in the Scottish capital in 2014.

It is expected that Swift’s dates in the UK will provide a near-£1 billion boost to the UK economy, a report from Barclays Swiftonomics reports.

What are some of Scotland’s other biggest gigs?

Murrayfield is used to holding major events, with Beyonce bringing her Renaissance World Tour to Edinburgh last year.

Almost 55,000 fans headed to Edinburgh to see her perform while an estimated 52,000 fans went to see American rocker Bruce Springsteen last year.

What about indoor venues?

While on his Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent UK tour, Lewis Capaldi (below) set a new record for the highest-selling indoor show in Scotland.

His show at the Event Complex Aberdeen, which has a capacity of 15,000, in January 2023 sold 14,951 tickets.

This broke the previous record held by Gerry Cinnamon from November 2019 by 146, with the Scottish rocker selling 14,805 tickets.

However, Cinnamon also broke records at Hampden park, bringing 50,000 fans to the venue during his tour in 2022.
