The Big Weekend Festival is coming to Glasgow's West End later this year

The Big Weekend, a two-day community festival, is set to land in Kelvin Way this September and is intended to be a fun and inclusive weekend jam packed with community arts and culture.

The festival will take place at the Kelvingrove Bandstand and along Kelvin Way in the West End, and will include a programme of free, accessible community and family-focused events and activities both in the bandstand itself and along the closed Kelvin Way. On the Saturday, there is everything from live music to samba bands, choirs and circus performers as well as a street market, food and drink vendors, street theatre and pop up workshops.

A Saturday evening of drag, cabaret and comedy at Kelvingrove Bandstand hosted by the legendary Cheri Treiffel will be available to book and the famous Kelvingrove Outdoor ceilidh hosted by Glasgow Folk Music Workshop is set to return on the Sunday.

Brendon McIlroy, Halo Arts Artistic Director said: "Now things seem to be returning to some semblance of normality, we’ve been delighted to have been able to deliver a much needed programme of community events in the West End this Summer. The Big Weekend is the culmination of our programme and we’re so excited to open up the Kelvingrove Bandstand and all along Kelvin Way for this unique and vibrant festival.

"In the absence of many of the community events that once took place in the West End, Halo Arts appear to be filling the void with free, inclusive and community focused events open to all in the West End and beyond."

The only event that carries a price tag at The Big Weekend is ‘Drag @The Bandstand’ on Saturday September 3rd, which is a fundraiser event to support the free programme. Glasgow City Council are also supporting the festival.
