The big Liverpool projects that could be rubber stamped this week

Liverpool City Council's planning committee will meet this week to run the rule over a number of major projects that could be built in the city.

The committee will meet on Tuesday, January 31 in Liverpool Town Hall. The plans being discussed a major leisure and hospitality venue in the Baltic Triangle, dozens of new apartments and a new drive-through coffee shop. Here we take a look at what could be approved and where it could be built.

BOXPARK

Plans to open the first BOXPARK venue outside London in Liverpool could be agreed this week.

Last year it was confirmed that the award-winning dining, retail and leisure operator - which already operates three sites in the capital - is planning to open up a new complex within the Cains Brewery Village in Liverpool's Baltic Triangle area.

If the plans are approved at the planning committee on Tuesday, BOXPARK will take over the historic Canning Hall. The site will be transformed into a food hall and events venue including a large internal space with units set over the ground floor, a small internal mezzanine, and an external terrace.

Planning officers have recommended that the committee approves the plans. If it does then BOXPARK's Liverpool site would aim to be up and running in late 2023.

The planning statement for the application states: "Boxpark’s concept began in 2011 with the creation of the first ‘pop-up’ dining and shopping destination in Shoreditch. Following on from these successes, further venues have been established in Croydon and Wembley. BOXPARK are now looking to create an exciting new food, drink and entertainment venue at Cains Brewery Village."

Starbucks

A new drive-thru Starbucks coffee shop could be opened on the outskirts of Liverpool city centre if plans are approved this week.

An application will be debated that could see a new facility built on vacant land at the entrance of Brunswick Business Park, Sefton Street in L3. The site, located between TeamSport indoor go karting centre and the Century Building would comprise a single storey building with 23 car parking spaces.

The land is currently used for surface car parking usage with a pedestrian refuge has been proposed for the centre of Sefton Street, to create a new safe walking route close to the pedestrian entrance. A Liverpool Council report said in its current state, the site contributes little to the streetscape.

The report said: “The proposed scheme would locate a small drive-thru complex on this plot. The appearance of the building would not share many of the characteristics of the surrounding warehouses but, conversely the plot area is small, and the building would clearly read as having a different use to that of warehousing."

The plans have been recommended for approval when Liverpool Council’s planning committee meets at the Town Hall on Tuesday.

Flats plan

Dozens of new apartments could be built in two new blocks close to the Leeds-Liverpool canal.

Proposals have been submitted to Liverpool Council to construct 70 new flats on land between Commercial Road and Tobacco Wharf in Kirkdale. The site, which was previously occupied by a warehouse until it was demolished more than 30 years ago, is a vacant square piece of land sited to the west of Commercial Road.

Plans put forward by applicant Elavace Estates Number 3 Ltd seek to redevelop the land to provide two new blocks four and six storeys high with dozens of new apartments. The development would face onto the canal with a shared amenity area.

The site is described as relatively flat but drops down steeply to the west where it abuts the canal. Access to parking is from the north of the site, off Commercial Road, and will be sited within an undercroft surface car park with 70 spaces where cycle storage is also proposed.

The plans have been recommended for approval by officers when Liverpool Council’s planning committee meets at Tuesday.
