The Big Help Out for the King’s Coronation: How to volunteer over the royal weekend

Brits are being urged to sign up for the Big Help Out in a nationwide initiative in the name of the King’s Coronation.

On Monday, May 8 — two days after the King’s Coronation — people are being urged to sign up for volunteering acts to make the area they live in the cleanest ever as part of a weekend of events.

Prince Charles is a big advocate of caring for the planet and has often spoken out about his fears over the environment and climate change.

And for the first nationwide event, people are being encouraged to “lend a hand and make a change” to help out in their locality.

What is the Big Help Out?

The idea is that people take some time out of their day, or even donate their entire day, to doing worthwhile things in their community.

This could be popping in on an elderly neighbour, organising a park clean-up, or helping out a charity in your area for the day to “make a change”.

The website to sign up for the event says: “To mark His Majesty The King’s Coronation, thousands of organisations across the country are getting together to give us all the chance to help out in our own local communities.

“No matter what you are good at, there’ll be something to suit helping hands of all shapes and sizes! From checking in on someone who’d like a bit of company or volunteering for a charity, the more of us who join in, the bigger help we will be.”

How to volunteer

The Big Help Out organisers have created an app that people can download to see what events are going on in their area. Organisations can click on the help they need and you can offer your services. Click here to get it. It is available on desktop, Apple devices, and Android.

What else can you do to help?

Alternatively, people are being urged to organise their own events to make the Big Help Out the biggest it can be.

All the information to plan and register an event can be found on the website and people are asked to make sure they log that event.

People can also download designs on a toolkit on the website to make social-media posts about the event they are organising.
