It’s hard to imagine a season where Rangers lost the title they craved so much and worked so hard to get ending so memorably.
If you had told the Ibrox legions 12 months ago, amid the euphoric celebrations, that the crown would be given up at the first opportunity but they would still look back on the campaign fondly then it would have been hard to work out how that was possible.
Yet that’s exactly what happened in a roller-coaster campaign that saw them lose a manager and their title but gain an experience never to be forgotten and end the season with silverware.
It started slowly with Champions League failure before Steven Gerrard left for Aston Villa and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, a hero as a player, took over at the Ibrox helm.
The Dutchman had a sticky couple of months after the winter break which ultimately cost them the Scottish Premiership.
But along the way they continued to make progress in the Europa League and Scottish Cup with those two trophies becoming the priority.
It resulted in two finals in the space of four days with the first in UEFA’s second tier competition against Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville’s Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium ended in penalty shoot-out heartache.
But Rangers picked themselves up as they were again forced to go the distance in the Scottish Cup final with an extra time victory against Hearts in the Hampden showpiece.
The club’s 150th anniversary season was certainly eventful and now we want Record Sport readers to tell us in our Rangers survey to pick out the best performers and moments of the 2021/22 season.
