The best UK places to holiday for Easter break, according to Airbnb

With plenty of travel disruption for heading abroad due to staff sickness from Covid, many will be looking for last-minute holidays in the UK this Easter. And the picturesque seaside town of Prestatyn in Denbighshire has emerged as the UK's top trending destination for Easter holidays, according to new research from Airbnb.

The accommodation provider has unveiled the top staycation hotspots seeing the biggest rise in searches from Brits for April holidays. Wales reigned supreme in the new rankings; not only did Prestatyn take the top spot, but Carmarthen and Merthyr Tydfil also made the top 10 round-up, the Mirror reports.

And it's not difficult to see why Prestatyn has been catching the attention of holidaymakers. As well as a high street packed with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants, Prestatyn boasts sandy beaches which visitors have praised for their cleanliness and scenic walks on offer.

One visitor shared their positive experience on Tripadvisor writing: "This amazing golden sandy beach stretches for miles. Indeed you can walk along the coast from Prestatyn to Talacre or to Rhyl if you wanted a good walk.

"When we visited the beach was clean and there were life guards in attendance. Although a very popular beach, it is so vast that social distancing was not a problem".

Another added: "Lots and lots of lovely sand when the tide goes out. When the tide is in you can walk/cycle along the promenade for miles. Worth a visit."

Prestatyn wasn't the only Welsh town to emerge as a staycation hotspot. Carmarthen in Carmarthenshire was another destination that has seen a rise in interest from Brits, with plenty of museums and attractions such as Carmarthen Castle in the region, as well as the picturesque walks around Carmarthen Bay.

There is also a wide array of accommodation on offer, whether you're after a budget-friendly stay or looking for a beautiful cottage. Taking the third spot on the podium was Aintree in Merseyside; with the Grand National taking place at Aintree Racecourse on April 9, it's not surprising that Airbnb has noted a spike of interest from Brits planning breaks in the region.
