It didn't take long at all for the internet to react to Liz Truss' resignation. The UK's shortest-serving Prime Minister, Truss lasted only 44 days in the role before quitting.
Her stint as PM might have been brief, but under her leadership Truss managed to introduce a disastrous string of economic policies which not only threw markets into turmoil, but also saw Tory MPs lose confidence in her.
Truss announced her resignation outside Downing Street on Thursday (October 20). It came after weeks of chaos in government, which ultimately came to a head on Wednesday. Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman handed in her resignation as she accused the government of “breaking key pledges” including on immigration policy.
And just days earlier, Truss sacked Kwasi Kwarteng as Chancellor and replaced him with Jeremy Hunt. Mr Hunt then went on to scrap the majority of the policies set out in Mr Kwarteng's mini-budget during his own emergency fiscal statement.
Pressure had been piling on Truss to quit - and The Daily Star even set up a livestream to see if a lettuce bought from Tesco could survive longer than Truss’ premiership. It did.

Ryanair's ticket to anywhere
The low-budget airline cheekily tweeted out a ticket to anywhere for Truss, which included priority boarding and even baggage.
Liverpool Airport quipped: "Make sure it's non-refundable. We know what she's like", to which Ryanair responded: "Don't worry she's no exception".
Truss is a true Swiftie at heart...
Taylor Swift drops her long-awaited tenth album Midnights on Friday (October 21) - and it's no secret that Truss is a huge Swiftie.
Not only has she met the American singer-songwriter, but in March 2020, Truss slipped some of Taylor's words into a debate on International Women's Day. She was Minister for Women and Equalities at the time and quoted lyrics from The Man while discussing barriers for women.
"It is your talent ideas and character that matter, not anything else," explained Truss before she gave a line from the track. "In the words of the brilliant Taylor Swift in her new song, women aren't left 'running as fast as they can, wondering if they'd get there quicker if they were a man'."
So it's pretty coincidental that her resignation comes the day before TayTay's big release....
Worst Thursday ever?
Journalist Tom Campbell dug out one of Truss' old tweets, which saw her despair over a broken oven - meaning that tragically, "Pizza Thursday" had to be cancelled.
If only she knew there were worse Thursdays to come...
Spooky season is back on
It's not only Taylor Swift's album we have to look forward to this month, but Halloween is just around the corner too.
Westminster correspondent Alexander Brown found this old gem of Truss dressed up as a devil - and jovially pointed out that she had left work to get into the spooky season spirit.
