The best TV antennas for watching Super Bowl 2023

Super Bowl 2023 is fast-approaching, and whether you’re a recent cord-cutter or you’ve been cable-free for years, you might be looking for a way to watch the game on Sunday, February 12.

Though several streaming services provide access, the easiest answer might be to pick up a TV antenna. They’re a great way to tune into live events without relying on a paid cable subscription, especially if you hope to save some money in the process. Most antennas we’ve tried range from $20 to $60, so you can catch the game without breaking the bank.

You can also get smaller, more compact antennas for your home that won’t take up too much space.

Here’s everything you need to know about TV antennas ahead of Super Bowl 2023.

What do indoor TV antennas do?

TV antennas, including indoor antennas, capture over-the-air programming, including CBS, ABC and FOX. Indoor antennas work best when placed in the upper reaches of your house, if possible, but many need to be connected to your TV.

What’s the best TV antenna to buy?

ClearStream Eclipse

If you want the best antenna we’ve ever tried, you can get the ClearStream Eclipse, which offers incredible performance and a sleek design, as well as excellent channel capture and reception. The version that’s available is compatible with outdoor installation, too, in the event that you want to make your antenna setup a little more permanent (and out of the way).

Channel Master Flatenna 35

If you’re getting a TV antenna just for the purpose of tuning into a sports event or award show, there are plenty of lower-priced options available, like the Flatenna 35 from Channel Master, which is just $29 and offers a flexible, plate-like antenna that’s designed to reside in your home—it’s our best value pick, and it comes complete with a 35-mile range.

Winegard HDTV antenna

The Winegard antenna performs very well, with a high volume of channels at its disposal. It’s on the higher end price-wise for an indoor antenna, but if you’re looking for a permanent fixture for your TV setup it’s a great option—it ranked lower than other models simply because some of the channels it picked up weren’t as clear, but standard channels should work fine.

How do I install a TV antenna?

If you’re shopping for a Super Bowl fix, indoor antennas are excellent, given that the installation process is pretty much plug-and-play. Once you have your antenna, you’ll simply plug in the appropriate cable into your TV. You’ll have to make sure your antenna can either rest or be mounted close to both your TV and a suitable power outlet.

Do I *need* an antenna?

Ultimately, how much you spend for access to local channels and the Super Bowl is up to you, but if you prefer not signing up for new streaming services, or you’ve realized that you don’t like missing out on big events like the Oscars, an indoor antenna can be a great, inexpensive update to your TV setup.
