The best times to book flights to avoid Dublin Airport queue chaos

Dublin Airport has been in the firing line in recent weeks as thousands of passengers complain of lengthy waits and missed flights.

Social media is littered with disgruntled customers of all airlines operating out of the airport, and although the public has been assured the issue will be resolved soon, it remains a pain for those departing in the coming weeks.

Last week, Paul Hackett, President of the Irish Travel Agents Association, suggested that things will be resolved in a matter of weeks.

He told TodayFM: “I don’t think it will be an issue that will be allowed to fester for weeks on end but it is going to be there for the next two to three maybe four weeks so people just need to be aware.”

To avoid confusion for the time being, it is not possible to book fast-track security, and advice to customers is still to allow extra time for these ongoing delays.

The worst queues are being experienced at peak hours for travel both in the morning and evening, with some claiming they have endured four-hour wait times.

Dublin Airport’s ‘expected wait time’ feature on their website has been reinstated after it was removed over the weekend, however, they warned that only ‘median times’ are shown.

In a post on Twitter, a spokesperson confirmed: “Security queue times have been re-introduced to http://dublinairport.com.

“Please note, times represent the median queue time of passengers that have completed security screening in the previous 15 minutes.

“Individual passenger times may be longer/shorter than the time displayed.”

If you’re heading abroad over the coming weeks, you may be wondering when the busiest times are so you can avoid getting caught in the mayhem.

So it’s important to know that no matter what day of the week it is, there are bound to be delays at popular flying times.

Dublin Airport experiences its busiest periods from 6:00 am to around 10:00 am as many opt for earlier flights to extend their holiday by as many hours as possible.

Later in the afternoon, there is another busy period between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm so you can expect longer waits then too.

The quietest times in the airport are usually between midnight and 3:00 am and from around 11:00 am to 1:00 pm so if you’re really trying to avoid all crowds you should travel at those times.
