'The best team won' - Sean Dyche gives honest verdict of Manchester United defeat

Everton manager Sean Dyche admits that the best team won as his side fell to a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.

Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial grabbed the goals for United after they dominated proceedings on a comfortable day at Old Trafford.

United had 21 shots in the first-half against Everton, their most on record (since 2003-04) in the first half of a single Premier League game, and the most by any side in the opening 45 minutes of a match this season.

On another day they could have won by a much greater margin, and the only real criticism of their performance was their profligacy in front of goal.

Speaking after the match, Dyche echoed those thoughts as he issued his verdict on the result: "Too many mistakes against a good side," he told Match of the Day.

"A side that has been very good here (Old Trafford). They deserved to win. Sometimes you hold your hands up. Particularly in the first-half, although we gave them so many chances and opportunities for not doing the basics. I think we are bringing resilience to it, and a lot of it was self-inflicted. self-inflicted from straight balls and not into the game straight away. On the other hand, some great last ditch saves from Jordan Pickford.

"We quelled it somewhat in the second-half, but overall the best team won."
