The best street style at Paris Couture Week

Couture Week is upon us. That means collections from the most esteemed Parisian houses, ornate beading and mind-boggling embroidery from storied ateliers, and glimpses of the select editors, celebrities and clients who have secured their invite to a show.

Naturally, it is cause for some of the best street style seen all year. At Schiaparelli, the red carpet brand du jour, there was chic commotion for their first show since the pandemic began. On the steps of the grandiose Le Petit Palais, which is as gold dipped as Creative Director Daniel Roseberry’s designs, Julia Fox and Kanye West stole focus in matching biker fits. Fox wore huge gold, chain earrings and piercing black eye makeup, while West added fuel to the booming balaclava trend with only two slits in his face covering to see. The pair have certainly mastered the recipe to stand out.

Copious gild gold hats, skeleton effect coats, and bags with facial features – all quintessential Schiaparelli – came on the likes of Laverne Cox and Chiara Ferragni, before the crowd sat down to take in the 32 look show.

There was a similarly frenetic buzz outside Chanel. While a runway horse took centre stage during the show, outside the style set dutifully rolled out their tweeds, double C logos, and classic chain belts. It is a given for ‘Chanel day’. And at the likes of Christian Dior and Valentino other street style tricks came full force to give everyday outfits some edge.

Printed scarves are a style set staple (imaxtree)

Maximal print silk scarves wrapped overhead made an effortless statement – bonus points if worn with clashing print tailoring – and throw on huge faux fur coats, like those loved by ex-Vogue Paris Editor Carine Roitfeld, were used to make a max impact, minimal effort entrance. More good news from the pavements of Paris: if you saddled up to the knee high cowboy boot trend after the last Fashion Month in September, you’re in luck. After plenty of spots this week, it is clear they’re going nowhere.

Couture comes to a close tomorrow, Thursday 27 Jan, but will be quickly followed by Copenhagen Fashion Week next week, before the new Ready-to-Wear season kicks off in New York come February 11. In other words, brace!
