The best street style at Copenhagen Fashion Week SS24

Copenhagen fashion week (CPHFW) is fast becoming one of the most hyped dates in the fashion calendar. Social media has been enslaved by Scandi style thanks to the rise of Matilda Djerf and Pernille Teisbaek, while brands like Ganni and Saks Potts earn cult status — the event has established itself as worthy of being included in the New York-London-Milan-Paris circuit.

Taking place from August 7 - 11, the SS24 schedule includes buzzy newcomers like Nicklas Skovgaard, who started to post his designs to Instagram in 2020 and is now part of CPHFW’s NewTalent initiative, and Central Saint Martins graduate Paolina Russo, winner of the first Zalando Visionary Award. Of course, it also includes more seasoned Nordic veterans like Rotate, the partywear label that had former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Rinna walk the runway last season.

However, although Scandi style prevails — the weather did not. Editors, influencers, and gatecrashers put their best sartorial foot forward while carefully avoiding the puddles.

To counter the miserable skies, dopamine dressing was a huge hit. From big bold prints to colourful monochromatic looks, the streets were awash with zingy, in-your-face ensembles to boost the mood.

As for fabrics, denim was the undisputed winner — with all sorts of takes on the versatile material. Most notably, one onlooker wore a denim skirt cleverly stitched into a long-sleeve top, while another stunned in an acid-washed cinched denim jacket with matching flared pants.

Alaïa’s heart-shaped Le Couer bag continued to enamour editors, with the accessory still a mainstay on the FROW. So did bows, with the motif cropping up as both a hair accessory and in clothing designs.

Luckily, Scandis are famous for their layering, and the weather gave them an opportunity to show us how it’s done. Boxy crop jackets, thigh-grazing woolley jumpers, and oversized scarfs were stacked together. So, too, were long-sleeve tops, summer dresses, and trousers, which is a good styling trick to maximise the mileage of summer pieces.
