It's always cheaper, and while it feels and looks a little flimsy, it actually makes slightly better bread than the Artisan - don't tell anyone.

Yes - sort of. The Artisan is still built in Greenville, Ohio and is made from almost 100% American parts, with the exception of the mixing bowl, which is made abroad.
