The best Red Star vs Rangers pictures as crimson flares light the way to last eight after Ryan Kent's gymnastics

It was another Europa League Thursday night to remember.

Rangers marched on into the quarter-finals after seeing off Red Star Belgrade on their own patch, leaning on their healthy 3-0 win to progress 4-2 on aggregate.

The din of the famous Marakana arena lived up to the hype.

Crimson red flares decorated the curve of the hosts' stadium as the teams emerged, with a minute's silence for their former president.

Then the action got underway and Mirko Ivanic opened the scoring inside 10 minutes, racing away to gee up the home fans even further, not that it was needed.

Chances came and went for Red Star but weren't taken and Gers landed a sucker punch in the second half through Ryan Kent.

Pictures captured the moment he vaulted the advertising boards before making a beeline for the pocket of travelling Rangers supporters.

Such is the backing the Serbian champs enjoy that they got no pelters at full-time, as they gathered together in front of their fans having won on the night thanks to El Fardou Ben Nabouhane's penalty.

But it was the Govan side who really got to celebrate before heading off the pitch with a few more flares lighting the way for good measure.

Victorious manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst told BT Sport: "I’m very proud.

"The belief is only getting stronger. We take it round by round and there are some big names left in the draw.

"But again it’s two big games to develop ourselves as a team and to go one stage further will be the goal, but the opponent will be stronger each round we go.

"We have had some good results, especially the result in the last round against Dortmund, that’s a result which the whole of Europe thinks about. It was an amazing accomplishment for us.

"Red Star, it’s very complicated to come here, but we had a good foundation with the 3-0 win last week and we played very well here and concentrated."
