The best places to live in Nottinghamshire

Nottingham has slipped down 76 spaces on a list of the best places to live in the UK. The Best Places to Live in the UK list was created by Garrington's Property Finders in Durham. It outlines the best areas for first-time buyers or those looking to purchase a new home.

The list takes into account of the quality of life, green energy focus, architecture and natural beauty. Nottingham was at number 405 in 2021 but has sadly slipped 76 places this year.

When it came to individual categories, Nottingham scored 94 out of 1372 for its green efficacy but had a lower score of 966 for natural beauty. Nottingham's beautiful architecture scored 496 and the quality of life score was recorded as 966.

When it came to the quality of life, the team took into account the crime statistics, air quality and proportion of homes that had access to open green spaces like parks. Natural beauty examined the access to areas such as canals, rivers or parks.

Despite some of our areas of natural beauty such as canal walks, the likes of The Arboretum in the city and country park walks, Nottingham scored 966. It wasn't just the city that was ranked but the individual towns and villages were also examined for the same categories.

Some areas scored higher than others including West Bridgford and Beeston whereas others, such as East Leake, were some of the lowest in the UK with a score of 1372 out of 1373. Mansfield Woodhouse had a quality of life score of just 106 in comparison to 966 for those living in the city centre.

However, the town scored much lower on architecture with 1065 out of 1372. West Bridgford moved 181 places from last year to 1017 on the list.

The team estimated that, despite having a number of green spaces, and good architecture, the quality of life score was recorded at 1096 out of 1372. It also recorded house prices with the average family home listed as between £350,000 to £650,000.

Natural beauty was listed as good at 802 as the area had a number of architectural sights for visitors and locals alike. This was the first year that green efficiency was taken into account in the report referring to energy costs, cycle lane access and also electric charging facilities.

Beeston scored high on the list 473 on green spaces potentially due to its cycle access. Despite its access to places like Highfields Park and Attenborough Nature Reserve, it had a lower score for natural beauty at 979.

As new facilities, a cinema and new restaurants have opened in the town centre, Beeston did better on its score for quality of life at 730. One of the worst areas of Nottinghamshire to live in, according to the report, was recorded as East Leake which ranked 1371 out of 1372.

It had low scores across natural beauty, architecture, green spaces and quality of life. It had slipped 80 points from its score in 2021.

Scores were low across the board for East Leake as it recorded 1320 out of 1372 for natural beauty and 1366 for quality of life. The village did slightly better for architecture at 1003.

Southwell was also recorded as low on the list of areas with natural beauty but the village improved its scores on quality of life at 903. The village slipped a huge 167 places to its current ranking of 716 out of 1372 in just one year. Despite its leisure centre and golf park, the historical area was one of the lower areas on the list.

The full list includes some of the most popular locations in Nottingham for house sales. This included the city centre at 481, Beeston at 930, Stapleford at 839, Southwell at 716, Arnold at 979, West Bridgford at 1017 and East Leake at 1371.
