It's one of our finest great British traditions and for many it's classed as the best meal of the week.
And there's something wholly comforting about getting the family meeting up around the table for a delicious Sunday roast.
But not everyone will relish slaving over a hot stove and a pile of washing up on the day of rest.
With that in mind, there are plenty of pubs and restaurants that will do the hard work for you across Nottinghamshire.
The only hardship is deciding which one to pick.
Here we've had a look at some of the most popular places for the most British of meals across the county and just slightly beyond.
Pieminister
The pie supremo has come up with a twist on the classic Sunday lunch, combining its best-selling products with a roast dinner. Pick a pie (beef, wild venison, and free-range chicken) and turn it into the Sunday Best with on a bed of mash and topped with Yorkshire pud filled with swede and roast garlic and rosemary potatoes, and finished with pork crackling and a pig-in-blanket.
And, of course, there has to be a brimming boat of gravy on the side.
Gluten-free and vegan versions are also available meaning that all the family can sit down and enjoy the Sunday Best together at the restaurant. Served all day.

Rancliffe Arms
Hop over to Bunny for a cracking Sunday carvery with as many Yorkshire puds and roast potatoes as you can load onto your plate.
What better than sinking into a soft leather sofa in front of an open log fire, sipping chilled wine and real ales alongside the aroma of freshly roasted meats from the carvery...of course, with all the vegetables.

Annie's Burger Shack
Torn between a Sunday roast and a burger? Have both at the American diner in the Lace Market. The Sunday Dinner consists of a burger topped with roast chicken breast, homemade Yorkshire pudding, stuffing ball, mini roast potatoes and mini vegetables, all covered in homemade gravy.
And just like all the other burgers on the menu, there's veggie and vegan versions.

The Round House
The round building used to be part of the old General Hospital. Now a pub, it's worth a detour up the hill.

This charming old country inn, honoured by Michelin, Sawdays, Camra and the AA, has wooden beams and a more formal restaurant area with antique mahogany tables.
Nottinghamshire's Dining Pub of the Year for many years in a row brings something different to the table. It has previously served a leg of local lamb with parmesan gnocchi, peas, mint, onion hearts, anchovies and salsa verdi and 12-hour brined lemon chicken, sausage roll, sweet potato lyonnaise and purple broccoli, as well as a classic roast of Richard Taylor's sirloin of beef, Yorkshire pudding, beef dripping roast potatoes and, in their words, "proper gravy."
