Award winning comedian Mark Nelson unlocks the best of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2022. Mark and his star team of comedians have been scouring the brochures, posters and venues for the best performers, personalities and shows from the world-famous festival in the capital.
For this kick-off 2022 episode, Mark Nelson will be meeting award-winning comedian and Hollywood actor Omid Djalili, who’s delighted - if a bit emotional - to be back in Edinburgh. There are musical performances from the Soweto Gospel Choir and Fascinating Aida.

Fringe veterans Hal Cruttenden and Lucy Porter also give fringe first-timer Eunice Olumide some top tips before her debut stand-up show, as well as advice on making the most of what’s on offer across the capital this summer.
Blind comedian Jamie Macdonald goes to “see” Cirque Beserk!, but decides the only way he can truly experience the thrill of the circus is to join them, and Raymond Mearns will be on a big red bus!
Mark Nelson said: "It's great that the Edinburgh Festival is back to full strength, it's such an important part of the year for comedians and other performers. Audiences can experience something special at each show, take a chance on someone they've never heard of and discover the incredible talent that comes to the city every year.
"I'm delighted to be highlighting the best of it for BBC Scotland." Big festival names and performers will also feature in two further episodes of Edinburgh Unlocked.
Edinburgh Unlocked will air on BBC Scotland on Thursday, August 11 at 10pm. It will be available to view thereafter on BBC iPlayer.
