Nintendo Black Friday deals are here on the Nintendo eShop. The Big N and its publishing partners are discounting a wide range of games, from classic Switch hits like Super Mario Odyssey to Persona 3, Tunic, and a particularly good deal on Monster Hunter Rise. These deals are for digital games only, but if you’re looking for more Nintendo sales this holiday season, check out our roundup of Switch game deals on Amazon.
The Nintendo eShopd deals last until Dec. 3, 2023.
Super Mario Odyssey - $39.99
One of the best Super Mario games and Switch games in general is getting a rare discount, down to $39.99 from its usual $59.99. Mario Odyssey sees the famous plumber set off for worlds unknown in a bid to rescue the princess once again, sampling cultures, overcoming brilliantly designed platforming challenges, and celebrating his own history along the way. It’s a joy to experience.
Live A Live - $34.99
Live A Live was a unique experiment from Square in the Super Nintendo days, one that eventually inspired the likes of Octopath Traveler, though it never made it to the rest of the world until the remaster released in 2022. Live A Live is a collection of eight seemingly disparate stories that span the ages and eventually intertwine, and it features one of the most unusual and engaging combat systems in the genre.
It’s going for $34.99, and there’s a free demo if you want to try it out before committing.
Fire Emblem Engage - $41.99
This series anniversary celebration might be light on story, but it makes up for that with some excellent tactical battles. Fire Emblem Engage introduces a handful of new features, including chain attacks and special guards, that add a whole layer of strategizing when it comes to unit placement and party composition and some of the most challenging battles since Radiant Dawn. You can also adjust the difficulty down if you’re having trouble, so it’s welcoming for everyone.
Fire Emblem Engage is going for $41.99.
Yoshi's Crafted World - $39.99
Nintendo turned its attention to paper craft in Yoshi’s Crafted World, and the result is one of the Big N’s more creative, underrated ventures. Crafted World follows a similar structure as Wooly World. Yoshi clears light platforming challenges and solves simple puzzles, collects items, and generally goes about being adorable. Crafted World makes the most of each stage, though, with a flip side that has new challenges and clever integration of the actual scenery into each puzzle.
Yoshi’s Crafted World is down to $39.99, and there’s a demo if you want to give it a try first.
Tunic - $20.99
Tunic is a delightful indie gem, a Zelda-like adventure packed with secrets and charm and led by an adorable little fox hero. The puzzles are among the cleverest in the genre, the kind that make you feel real smart once you figure them out, and the bold art style gives the whole package a strong identity. Tunic is going for $20.99.
Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Editions - $12.49
Baldur’s Gate 3 might be out of reach for the Switch, but you can pick up the enhanced versions of the first two Baldur’s Gate games for $12.49. This package comes with a few modernizations that make the retro PC games easier to pick up for modern players, and both games have their major expansions included as well. That’s a lot of game, and even several years on, they remain some of the best in the RPG genre.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - $34.99
Speaking of top-tier RPGs, the Switch version of Dragon Quest XI is down to $34.99 for Black Friday. This epic tale of good, evil, and the hope that keeps people pushing ahead in the darkest times combines the best of previous Dragon Quest games and even lets you relive some of their pivotal story moments. The cast is among the best in the series, and there’s a set of epilogue stories that wraps each character arc up nicely at the end.
Square Enix’s generous 10-hour demo is still active, so you can give it a good long try before you buy if you’re keen.
We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie
If you want something a bit weirder, it doesn’t get much more bizarre than Katamari. This absolute treasure of a game casts you as the Prince of All Cosmos, sent to Earth by his father, the capricious king, to create katamari and populate the night sky with them. Like a dutiful prince, you set to work rolling up everything in sight – cats, road signs, milk bottles, the people next door, literally anything. More objects are fair game as your katamari gets bigger, and the result is satisfying and strangely relaxing.
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective - $19.99
Ghost Trick from the maker of Ace Attorney takes that series’ signature quirky style and deductive puzzles and applies them to physics and time instead of courtroom dramas. You play as a dead man, or his ghost, to be more precise, and your goal is figuring out not just why you died, but how to stop even worse events from unfolding in the city. The puzzles are brilliant, and while there’s always just one correct response, a generous checkpoint system means you can freely experiment until you get there without wasting a lot of time.
Ghost Trick is going for $19.99.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition - $34.99
The definitive version of Skyrim is discounted to $34.99, and it includes a whole lot of Skyrim. The Anniversary Edition comes with the base game, all expansions, everything in the Special Edition – which doesn’t include the game when you buy just the Special Edition upgrade – and a few new expansions exclusive to the Anniversary Edition.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - $41.99
If you like big adventures, but prefer them with anime flair, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is for you. It’s down to $41.99 for Black Friday, almost $20 off the usual price. Xenoblade 2 is part coming-of-age tale, part high-stakes political drama, and part metaphysical continuation of the first Xenoblade. There’s a lot going on, especially in combat, but it manages to tie everything together nicely.
Persona 3 Portable - $12.99
Persona 3 Portable is going for $12.99, which is pretty excellent value for what you get. It includes the main Persona 3 story, told through a mix of 3D battles and visual novel-style scenes, and it’s the only version of Persona 3 to include the female main character. Her story unfolds from a completely different perspective, with new friends to make and a fresh take on familiar events.
Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope - $25.19
Ubisoft’s improved version of Kingdom Battle brings smarter tactics and more ambitious battles to the mixed-up version of the Mushroom Kingdom. You’ve got more skills to pick from, more characters to mix and match, and more – and better – puzzles to solve, in a world whose design feels more confident and fulfilled than the original.
Nintendo discounted Sparks of Hope to $25.19.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes - $41.99
If you prefer your Fire Emblem with a bit more narrative bite than Engage, you might want to check out Three Hopes. This alternate telling of the Three Houses story puts Fodlan on a different path with a different deity pulling the strings, and that’s not all that changed. Three Hopes swaps tactics for Warriors battles, real-time “1 versus 100” conflicts where you control several characters at once. It’s more strategic than the first Fire Emblem Warriors and an engaging twist on familiar stories.
You can get it for $41.99, and there’s a Three Hopes demo if you’d like to try it out first.
Monster Hunter Rise + Sunbreak - $29.99
This is a pretty great deal. Capcom and Nintendo are bundling together Monster Hunter Rise and the massive Sunbreak expansion for $29.99, which is usually what Rise alone goes on sale for. Rise and its new Wirebug feature bring a new dimension to the classic action game franchise, and Sunbreak adds more monsters, more strategy, and better environments as well.
