The best Netflix shows only available in the US, UK, France and more

The best Netflix shows only available in the US, UK, France and more.

No amount of crank downs on password sharing, price hikes, or endless commercials seems to dissuade the general feeling that Netflix is a staple for most households. Sure, you might switch between the likes of Disney Plus and Prime Video, but for many Netflix is a constant. And with its original TV shows and movies continuing their clean sweeps every award season, it's not hard to see why. However, where its licensed content is concerned, different regions have access to different titles. And if you're not in that region? You'll likely need to sign up to yet another streaming platform to watch it – unless you get yourself a Netflix VPN. With this tool, you can workaround geo-blocks by connecting to a server in the right country, allowing you to appear anywhere in the world, and making your Netflix library even more expansive.

Below you'll find some of the best US only Netflix shows and movies. Equally, there are some gems in countries like the UK, Australia, and even Japan that you might not find on your US library. Pick from our selection, or explore the different catalogs – just make sure you visit our best VPN guide to get a provider that is actually able to unblock Netflix around the world. Because, if there's one thing worth knowing about VPNs, they are not all created equal.

What can you watch on US Netflix?

Switch on your US VPN and get even more out of your Netflix subscription with plenty of awesome exclusive titles being added all the time.

Looking for something to binge watch? Currently 'Sex and the City' is on loan from Max and can be streamed on US Netflix, as well as the first twenty seasons of 'Grey's Anatomy'. For something more cosy, enter the tent with Paul and Prue and watch 'The Great British Baking Show' almost concurrent with its UK release. 'Call the Midwife' is also available to stream, alongside other British imports like 'Bodyguard', 'Killing Eve', and more – though bare in mind these last two aren't exclusive to US Netflix.

After a sitcom? 'How I Met You Mother' is on Disney Plus elsewhere, but is available alongside 'The Mindy Project' on US Netflix for when you need an easy-breezy watch.

US Netflix is great for getting new movie releases. The world is cottoning on to the dreamboat Glen Powell, and you can watch his romantic rendezvous with Sydney Sweeney, 'Anyone But You'. It's also the place to watch 'May December', which sees two formidable talents act side-by-side: Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore.

What can you watch on Netflix UK?

There is only one duo of movies anyone really needs in their life, and they're exclusive to UK Netflix. One for the whole family, 'Paddington' and 'Paddington 2' are available to stream on Netflix, featuring one adorable bear from Peru, always with a marmalade sandwich or two in his suitcase. For those after a different kind of nostalgia, the UK library has plenty of 90s and 00s romcoms, including all three Bridget Jones films, 'Notting Hill', and 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days'.

In the States, you'll need subscriptions to Peacock, Max, Hulu, and beyond to get access to those shows you want to rewatch on the loop, which – I think we can all agree – really adds up. However, UK Netflix has quite a comfort watches, including 'The Office US', 'Friends', and 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia'. Any anime fans will also be thrilled to avoid a pricy Max subscription and get a full Studio Ghibli catalog. That, and all eight Harry Potter movies.

What can you watch on Netflix Japan?

Netflix Japan offers up a ton of excellent Japanese content, like homegrown Japanese classic Rashomon and many anime films like Gintama, and The Promised Neverland.

However, Japanese Netflix also boasts some surprising exclusives not found in any other library, including Greta Gerwig's adaptation of 'Little Women' starring Saorise Ronan, Florence Pugh, Emma Watson, and Lauran Dern. More excitingly still, stream Timothée Chalamet's 'Wonka'. For all your highland romp needs, Outlander is also still exclusively streaming on Netflix in Japan.

What can you watch on Dutch Netflix?

Dutch Netflix seems to be one of the most exciting libraries to access with a boatload of blockbuster movies in its catalog, including Quentin Tarantino's second movie 'Pulp Fiction' and Sam Mendes' '1917'. Another great watch is 'Chef', starring Jon Favreau. A cult classic in its own right, 'Clueless' is also available on Dutch Netflix. As if!

You can also stream all 8 seasons of 'House', starring Hugh Laurie. For sci-fi meets romance, why not hate watch 'Passenger', which only has a 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

What can you watch on Netflix Canada?

Getting ready to watch the new 'Gladiator' movie? Well, the Russel Crowe original is available on Netflix in Canada right now.

The iconic 'Shawshank Redemption' is available on Canada Netflix too, alongside 'The Godfather'. Want a Tarantino binge? 'Inglorious Basterds', and 'Django Unchained' are available to stream on Canada's library, too.

Looking for some great movies directed by women? Well both Greta Gerwig's 'Lady Bird' and 'Little Women' can be found here, as well as all the 'The Hunger Games' movies.

What can you watch on Netflix Australia?

Down Under you can recreate the summer of 2023 and "Barbenheimer" with both Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' and Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' on Netflix Australia.

Looking for teen drama? The original 'Mean Girls' movie can be found here, as well as something a bit more left-field, 'The 100', which definitely fits the 'teen drama' requirement, but slightly more apocalyptic.

Considering it was filmed in Australia's neighboring country, you'll be happy to know you can also watch 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy.

What can you watch on Netflix France?

Use your VPN to appear to be in France and you’ll gain access to some great titles, including – of course – French movies. 'Sous les Jupes des Filles' (or 'French Women') is a comedy drama that follows eleven middle-aged women in Paris as, together, they go through individual problems surrounding their careers, relationships, menopause, and so on.

French Netflix is also home to coming of age movie, 'Blue is the Warmest Color' and French comedies like 'L'amour (presque) Parfait'.

How can I access overseas Netflix?

The only way to get access to all of these regional libraries and more is to use a VPN. By routing your traffic through encrypted servers located all over the world, a good streaming VPN can make you appear to be pretty much anywhere and get you access to almost anything you want to watch.
