The best marathon training routes in London

If you're running the London Marathon next month, you're likely tiring of the same old routes.

With this in mind we've put together a selection of the most scenic routes through the capital to switch up your training.

From a quick loop across four of London's parks to an 18-miler along the canal from Limehouse to Little Venice, there's a route for everyone.

6.5 miles: Four Park Challenge

A quick loop before sunset. A leafy option around Green Park, St James’s Park, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Gates are locked when it gets dark.

15 miles: Waterloo to Canary Wharf

Swap the Jubilee line for a jog. Run to work in Canary Wharf via the river and Isle of Dogs — a solid 7.5 miles before your morning coffee. Run both ways for a 15-miler.

16 miles: Westminster to Greenwich

One for landmark lovers: cling to the river and follow the Thames along the Southbank to the Cutty Sark and back. Highlights include The London Eye, Tate Modern, HMS Belfast and Tower Bridge.

17.8 miles: City Loop

For City slickers: head east from Cannon Street along the north bank, following the Thames Path signs all the way to Limehouse Basin. Follow Regent’s Canal to Paddington, then meander through the Royal Parks back to the office.

18 miles: Limehouse to Little Venice

Another riverside run. Follow Regent’s Canal from Limehouse station, past Regent’s Park to Little Venice and back. Traffic-free — but watch out for cyclists.
