With Thailand’s occasionally unpredictable weather, especially during the rainy season, headphones can be a really tricky purchase to get right. You have to consider many things, mainly where you want to use them – gym, running, study, music at home etc. – the list goes on.
Now during a headphones search you are met with multiple different product designs and features which can hit you like a truck and leave you feeling a bit jaded during the buying stage.
Obviously a waterproof rating of XP3 and above would be really useful but they tend to run a bit high pricewise. We also need to consider how they fit: earbuds, over-ear, wired or wireless?
Fortunately, there is a great product information blog in Thailand named proreview.co that focuses on products that are available on the Thai market and forwards you to legitimate sellers with no fakes.
They helped us to understand the various types and purposes of current headphone choices and we break them down below:
• หูฟังบลูทูธ or wireless headphones are your standard headphone type. They can come in various shapes and sizes, they can be over-ear and in-ear but all have the main feature of being wireless. This is a good starting point to see the various designs and brands out there.
• หูฟังไร้สาย ราคาไม่เกิน 500 or headphones under 500 baht, these are perfect for those who just want a quick, cheap purchase but can still get something fairly decent that can plug into all your devices and play music with a reasonable quality, all for under 500 baht.
• หูฟังครอบหู or on-ear/over-ear headphones, are the classic style that have the headband attachment. These are generally preferred by music lovers, students and professionals due to their ability to block out external sounds and put you in the zone better than earbuds.
• หูฟังเกมมิ่ง or gaming headphones, are for, you guessed it, gaming. With computers getting more and more robust every year, and the games more demanding, sounds and music from AAA titles that really draw you into the atmospheres and environments can only be reached using a quality pair of gaming headphones.
• หูฟังออกกำลังกาย or exercise headphones, are ideal for gym goers, cross fitters and joggers. These models focus on stability when wearing, increased waterproofing security and battery life. The higher quality models tend to run a bit high but there are also some great neckband options available for under 1000 baht.
There are many others to consider too such as gym, running and the latest technology in noise cancellation headphones.
You don’t always have to spend 8000+ baht on the latest Bose or Apple headphones. It’s better to give some thought to what you really want to use the headphones for and where you will use them the most. Then make a purchase of a pair designed specifically for that purpose. That way you get the highest quality option.
