The best gigs and club nights to book this week

Top Pick: Jamz Supernova

The Social, November 23, thesocial.com

Beloved Radio 6 DJ and tastemaker Jamz Supernova will be playing The Social this Friday as part of their continued 25th birthday celebrations, which have been going on since summer. You know what they say: there ain’t no party like The Social birthday party, ‘cause The Social birthday party don’t stop.

Julien Baker

EartH Hall, November 21, earthackney.co.uk

Also known as “the little one” from Boygenius (alongside Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus), Julien Baker’s soothing voice soundtracks moody rock and confessional ballads. If you missed out on Boygenius tickets and were hit hard by the news of their hiatus, Baker’s gig is a good opportunity to plug the hole. It is a Dice waitlist situation, but it’s probably a smaller wait than the one for Boygenius to reunite.

Khruangbin

Eventim Apollo, November 21 & 22, eventimapollo.com

Grammy-nominated Texan musical trio Khruangbin are smooth, soulful and lively. The ultimate antidote to the capital’s winter, this gig will make you feel like you’re at the Red Rocks amphitheatre in Colorado, not the Eventim Apollo in rainy London. Tickets available via Ticketswap.

A Night of Disco

Jazz Cafe, November 22, thejazzcafe.com

Sometimes you don’t want to see a specific person at a club night, sometimes you just want to dance. For anyone seeking a good ol’ fashioned boogie this weekend, Jazz Cafe has a whole night of disco (Donna Summer, Chic, the lot) this Friday and it’s free for those who RSVP. Groovalicious, baby.

Fat Dog

Kentish Town Forum, November 23, academymusicgroup.com

Fat Dog, above, may have formed just four years ago, finding their sound in 2020 in south-east London, but they’ve made quite a name for themselves since. Gary Ryan of NME described them as “2023’s wildest live band” and they were named part of DIY Magazine’s Class of 2024 last December. For all your alt electronic needs, get down to Kentish Town.

Skin on Skin

Archives, November 23, archivesldn.com

Archives, a 1,600-capacity warehouse venue, has joined Drumsheds in Tottenham’s nightclub portfolio. An all-female line up is leading the club this Saturday, with techno DJs Thelma, pictured at the top of this page, and Jacklyn set to perform. Put a donk on it for the girlies.
