Nothing signifies new parenthood like a crash course in diaper management. The first choice is whether you will go diaper or cloth, and while I try my hardest to live lightly with as minimal trash footprint as possible, I plead guilty to using disposable diapers. I like to tell myself that I will potty train as soon as possible to save as many unused diapers as possible to assuage the guilt. However, if you, like me, decide to go forward with disposable diapers, you will need a diaper bin.
Here are the best diaper bins–all under $110–to keep your nursery smelling as clean as possible.
Playtex Diaper Genie Complete Diaper Pail
When I was registering for a diaper pail, my brother told me, “You have to get the Diaper Genie!” I didn’t listen. I recently used one for a week while on vacation and the nursery my son was in had one, and it was incredible. The Diaper Genie features a seven layer bag and a mechanism that wraps up each diaper individually, so odors are completely sealed up. Daily changing of the Diaper Genie is completely unnecessary, which is quite liberating, and enough to understand why Diaper Genie parents diaper pail enthusiasts.
Ubbi Diaper Pail
The Ubbi is one of the top registry favorites, and for good reason. It comes in a variety of prints and colors to match any nursery. Parents swear that the metal pail doesn’t hold onto stink the way plastic pails can, and they love that you can use any trash bag with the Ubbi, instead of having to rely on costly liners. Another plus about the Ubbi: it features a child-safe lock so your baby can’t get into it, and trust me, your baby will want to.
Bubula
When I picked out my diaper pail, I went the the Bubula. I loved that it was steel and matched so well with nursery, just a clean and modern diaper pail. It does a great job of holding the orders without deodorizer, as I didn’t want a deodorizer in my diaper pail. I love that it can take any liner, as I often use discarded plastic bags. My favorite part of the Bubula is that I can use it long after its diaper pail duties are done as a regular trash (or recycling) bin.
Diaper Dekor Classic
The Diaper Dekor Classic is at the top of every Best Diaper Pail list I have encountered. I love that the Dekor is handsfree, and you can use your foot to open the lid, a feature that should be standard on all diaper pails.
Munchkin STEP Diaper Pail
The Munchkin STEP Diaper Pail is about the most chic plastic pail on the market. My best friend swears by this pail for keeping her nursery odor free for days without changing the liner. The Munchkin uses proprietary liners that seal after each disposal, and it features Arm and Hammer odor controller. One thing to make you feel slightly less guilty: for every pail purchased, Munchkin plants a tree to help offset gas emissions.
Baby Trend Diaper Champ
The Baby Trend Diaper Champ is a great low-cost diaper pail option. Parents love that you can use any liner with the Diaper Champ, and that it has a handle, unlike any other diaper pail. It also has a slim shape that can fit between changing table and other furniture.
Safety 1st Easy Saver Diaper Pail
The Safety 1st Easy Saver Diaper Pail is the most cost-effective diaper pail on the market with positive reviews. Retailing for less than $25, this option is made entirely of plastic and uses any kind of liner.
