What’s the greatest love story in Destiny 2? Osiris and Saint? Caiatl and Zavala? No, it’s me and my new glaive.
In this new age of Witch Queen weapon crafting, I have leveled up my Enigma glaive more than any other weapon so far, and I just used it to run through the entire legendary campaign solo. When I posted about that yesterday, I was met with a lot of glaive skepticism, and let me just tell you:
You’re doing it wrong.
Especially this season of Destiny 2, there are tools to make the glaive just inhumanly strong for all levels of content. Easily one of the best utility weapons I’ve ever seen, even if it’s not out-DPS-ing other specials necessarily. Here are the core pieces as to how to fall in love with the glaive by building it out correctly:
The two most important keys here are…

Impulse Amplifier – This is a total gamechanger for the glaive. As soon as you level it up enough (the base version of the perk is rank 6) you need to throw it on the glaive. It changes the projectile from a float ball to an instant burst of death, plus some bonus reload speed for good measure. It’s a total gamechanger in terms of how the glaive plays and feels. My second perk was Frenzy for all around combat bonuses, but using Unrelenting for a while is fine until you unlock it. I will do the advanced perks later when I have more alloy.
Suppressing Glaive – This is a seasonal artifact mod in the fifth column that is going to be absolutely insane for the next three months. This makes both glaive shots and glaive melee attacks apply suppression, which not only knocks Hive Guardians out of their super but blinds any enemy so you can kill them with other weapons or glaive stab them to death. Think Blinding Grenades times ten.
The rest of the puzzle:

Psychohack – This is the new origin trait for all Witch Queen Throne World weapons that reduces damage output of enemies on repeated hits. For glaive hacks, even if a target is not suppressed like a boss, it can reduce their damage so they don’t even break your shield during a boss stomp.
Psionic Forging I – This increases the duration of Psychohack, though it does cost you a helmet slot.

Echo of Domineering – This is a new Void 3.0 fragment that gives you increased mobility and reloads your weapon every time you suppress something. Obviously a great pairing here.
Echo of Exchange – This gives grenade energy on melee kills which yes, triggers on glaive stabbing.
Echo of Leeching – 10 Recovery plus melee final blows trigger health regeneration, again, which triggers on glaive stabbing.
Unstoppable Glaive – Oh yeah, in case all that wasn’t enough, Glaives also work against Unstoppable champions this season.
Glaive Finder/Dexterity – Two more bonus glaive mods from the artifact. I actually found I wasn’t often short on glaive ammo because stabbing doesn’t cost anything.
The strategy here is: blind with suppression, whack whack whack dead, triggering about five different perks on the list here. Not terribly complicated but incredibly effective. I don’t even use the shield!
This is nuts. I’m serious. Do not discount glaives just because when you got one, you had no mods and bad perks. You’re welcome.
